Job Details

AvantGarde, LLC (AG) seeks to engage a Java Developer for a short term project to provide support to the AG client on site at the Department of Justice (DOJ), Executive Office for United States Attorneys, supporting multiple software development and maintenance projects simultaneously in an Agile development environment. The Java Developer analyzes functional requirements, develops and unit tests Java code that implements the requirements, provides status updates in scrum meetings, and documents the completion of requirements in Jira.

AG offers a comprehensive benefit package including a monthly commuter benefit as well as immediate medical enrollment and a generous 401k. This is a full time, 40 hours per week position. The work schedule is onsite in NE Washington DC, four days remote and one day per week on site at the DOJ office across from the NOMA Metro station. This is ideally a temp to hire position, but is currently only funded through December 31, 2024.

The WORK

  • Analyzes functional requirements to identify code changes that implement the requirement.
  • Analyzes edge cases to determine the effect each code change will have in other portions of the application.
  • Participates in daily scrum reviews with all team members to report progress, blockers, and open action items.
  • Remediates 508 accessibility shortfalls in software applications based on ANDI compliance reports.
  • Demonstrates a grasp of the principles, theories, and concepts of the software development lifecycle (SDLC) and Agile design and development processes.
  • Performs verification of code changes through unit testing before updating the status in Jira.
  • Demonstrates the ability to generate problem and change reports using Jira; communicates orally and in writing with the Project Manager, Development Lead, software developers, and Requirements Analyst to ensure the planned software changes will satisfy the functional requirements.
  • Participates in code peer reviews as both an author and a reviewer.

The REQUIREMENTS

  • A BS or MS degree in computer science or a related field and a minimum of 3 years of Development experience
  • Familiar with SQL and creating SQL scripts.
  • Familiar with 508 accessibility standards.
  • Works independently to analyze and implement complex Java code solutions.
  • Provides status to the Development Lead on all test activities.
  • Must be willing to work on-site in Downtown DC. Remote support is currently with four days remote work permitted as a result of the COVID pandemic, but remote work may be rescinded by the customer in the future.
  • Must be able to report for work M-F, 5 days a week. Alternative flex schedule allowed within normal work hours (i.e., between 7 am 6 pm).
  • Able to obtain a DOJ Public Trust federal security clearance; active or recent federal security clearance preferred.

The Department of Justice (DOJ) Executive Office for United States Attorneys (EOUSA) provides executive and administrative support for the 93 United States Attorneys located throughout the 50 states, the District of Columbia, Guam, the Marianas Islands, Puerto Rico, and the U.
