SQL Database Administrator (DBA) / Development

Hybrid - Onsite - M/W/F - Tempe, AZ 85288

6-month Contract to Hire - client is not offering sponsorship. Candidates will be W2 employees of Talent Groups during contract period.

Our client is seeking a highly skilled SQL Developer / Database Administrator (DBA) to support, design, and maintain enterprise database environments. This role blends hands-on database administration with advanced SQL development, performance tuning, and ETL work. The ideal candidate has deep Microsoft SQL Server expertise, takes ownership of database reliability and performance, and partners closely with application teams while mentoring junior developers.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze business and technical requirements and prioritize development and administration tasks

  • Perform database installations, upgrades, migrations, patching, and environment maintenance

  • Administer and support production, non-production, and development SQL Server environments

  • Monitor database health, performance, availability, and capacity; proactively address issues

  • Review, optimize, and maintain existing databases, schemas, and T-SQL codebases

  • Design and implement indexing strategies, performance tuning, and query optimization

  • Validate, implement, test, and deploy SQL code across environments

  • Design and maintain database architecture and data models for new and existing applications

  • Develop, support, and optimize ETL processes and SSIS packages

  • Support application deployments, troubleshooting, and production issue resolution

  • Mentor and support junior developers in T-SQL and database best practices

  • Document database architecture, standards, operational procedures, and support processes

Required Skills & Experience

  • Strong experience in SQL Server Database Administration and SQL Development

  • Advanced expertise in Microsoft SQL Server and T-SQL, including complex queries and stored procedures

  • Proven experience managing database installations, upgrades, migrations, and patching

  • Hands-on experience with database performance tuning, indexing, and query optimization

  • Significant experience designing databases and data models for business-critical applications

  • Experience developing and maintaining SSIS ETL packages

  • Solid understanding of data structures, relational database design, and normalization

  • Excellent troubleshooting and debugging skills in production environments

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities

  • Clear verbal and written communication skills suitable for a professional environment

Nice to Have

  • Experience supporting high-availability or mission-critical database systems

  • Familiarity with backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies

  • Experience working within Agile, DevOps, or SDLC-driven environments
