Johnson & Johnson announced plans to separate our Orthopedics business to establish a standalone orthopedics company, operating as DePuy Synthes. Additional Description for Pay Transparency:
The Company maintains highly competitive, performance-based compensation programs. Under current guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan. The annual performance bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve annual targeted results by rewarding for individual and the corporation's performance over a calendar/performance year. Bonuses are awarded at the Company's discretion on an individual basis. Key Responsibilities:
- Define and drive the technical vision, strategy, and roadmaps for the data engineering team through close collaboration with business partners, the product team, data scientists, IT, and other stakeholders
- Design and architect scalable, performant, compliant, secure and cost-effective cloud applications and data pipelines for solutions ranging from descriptive dashboards to AI models and workflows - integrating DevOps principles and CI/CD practices and following SDLC development standards. This includes oversight of test strategy and test plans.
- Conduct strategic build vs. buy analysis - lead detailed financial, operational, and technical analysis to evaluate in-house vs. external development. Ability to assess strategic implications of these sourcing decisions considering factors such as cost, quality, speed-to-market, and long-term business goals.
- Lead the team of front-end and back-end developers - fostering professional development and growth within the organization while driving an environment of accountability and collaboration. This includes leading the recruitment and resource management of headcount to support project execution.
- Manage team performance through developing and monitoring key performance indicators across pipeline performance, data quality and reliability, cost optimization, time to market, and digital product adoption and performance.
- Develop frameworks for monitoring, troubleshooting and optimizing data pipelines to drive reliability, performance, and cost effectiveness.
- Manage project timelines, budgets, and resource allocation according to a defined capacity model
- Stay current with emerging software development and data engineering best practices, driving innovation and incorporating new techniques into the organization's data engineering strategy
Qualifications
Education:
A Bachelor's, Master's Degree, or PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, Applied Mathematics or a related field
Experience and Skills:
Required:
- Minimum 8 years of progressive experience in data engineering, software development, software quality, and/or cloud architecture with a demonstrated track record of production grade enterprise-scale application development
- Expert-level proficiency in Python, SQL with hands-on knowledge of modern data engineering tools and DevOps practices such as CI/CD, Error Handling, Automated Testing, Git version control systems
- Experience working in with Agile SCRUM methodologies and supporting tools like Jira and Confluence
- Foundational understanding of AI concepts - Agentic AI, Gen AI, Deep learning, traditional predictive machine learning
- Strong communication skills and the ability to tailor communication to the audience, including the ability to translate complex technical concepts to business stakeholders and drive alignment in a matrixed environment
- Knowledge of enterprise systems of records such as ERP, MES, and PLM and familiarity working with fragmented, legacy data
- Experience in implementing E2E data pipelines, cloud applications, and business intelligence and visualization tools.
- Advanced experience with DevOps and Infrastructure as Code practices
- Advanced experience with business intelligence visualizations such as Tableau & PowerBi, and basic understanding of basic custom front end application development practices and UX/UI Design principles
- Familiarity with coding languages such as SQL, Python, PySpark
- Data preparation methods for AI models- feature engineering for traditional machine learning and large-scale data preparation for training LLMs
- Experience with data management architectures such as Medallion, Lakehouse, Data Fabric; enterprise semantic and metadata management concepts such as knowledge graphs, ontology, and data lineage; and Vector databases such as Qdrant and Postgres Vector
Preferred:
- Familiarity with traditional AI/ML models - predictive, forecasting (time series), clustering in traditional AI/ML libraries - Pytorch, Tensorflow, Keras, or SciKit Learn
- Familiarity with AI Agent/Workflow frameworks such as Langchain
- Strong ability to translate complex AI concepts to business stakeholders and drive alignment in a matrix environment
- Strong experience with custom front end and web application development and UX/UI design principles
- Familiarity with E2E supply chain domains such as Planning , Manufacturing, Procurement, and Distribution within a MedTech or similar industry
