What you'll do

As a member of Viasat's fast-paced Test Engineering Team within Viasat Government, you will work with the test team to work closely with the product design team to interpret module requirements and turn them into corresponding Qualification and Certification Test Plans, Procedures, and Automation Scripts.

You will learn and understand new features, and how these new features work in the existing system. You will also perform testing of the systems to validate that the solution is acceptable for customer delivery.

You will witness firsthand how the underlying technology is implemented to build a sophisticated product. In this role, you will use your technical knowledge and creativity to craft new test methodologies and improve existing procedures to verify system requirements.

The day-to-day

  • Generate and review test plans and procedures for the various test campaigns (Design Validation, Security Verification, Functional and Environmental Qualification, etc.)
  • Develop and apply software automation and orchestration to streamline and build an efficient testing process.
  • Complete various tests, analyze data, and detail the results.
  • Using Python to automate both the execution of tests as well as the test procedure and test report documentation.
  • Collaborate with product design engineers (HW, SW, FPGA Logic, & Systems).
  • Define tests based on customer feedback and defect fixes

What you'll need

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related subject area
  • 8+ years of relevant test engineering experience
  • 2+ years of experience in scripting language to develop automation. C/C++/C#, or Python.
  • Experience in authoring and maintaining test procedures, technical reports, and supporting documentation in alignment with acceptance, qualification, certification, and functional testing standards.
  • Collaborate with a cross-functional team to support product development from prototype to production
  • Active United States Secret Clearance required
  • This is an on-site position located in Carlsbad, CA.

What will help you on the job

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to conduct technical discussions with Systems, Software, FPGA, and Hardware engineers.
  • Experience in leading, participating, and presenting in internal and external (customer) reviews
  • Ability to be an Individual Contributor; requiring minimal direct supervision and the ability to complete efforts successfully and on schedule.
  • Experience supporting Design for Testability (DFT) efforts
  • Experience with test hardware development (programming boards, probing cards, sockets).
  • Familiarity with Linux / Ubuntu operating systems including bash scripting
  • Ready to use a variety of lab equipment like oscilloscopes, power supplies, and networking automation tools (i.e., Spirent)
