Job Details

This role is critical in ensuring secure, reliable, and high-performance network connectivity between mainframe systems, distributed platforms, and enterprise applications.
Key Responsibilities
Installation & Maintenance
  • Install, configure, and upgrade mainframe networking components (TCP/IP, VTAM, Enterprise Extender, NetView).
  • Apply PTFs, APARs, and maintenance updates using SMP/E.
  • Customize communication parameters, exits, and profiles per business needs.
System Programming & Support
  • Provide technical support for networking subsystems on z/OS.
  • Troubleshoot TCP/IP, SNA/VTAM, and connectivity issues.
  • Support integration with CICS, IMS, DB2, and MQ.
  • Perform IPL considerations, traces, dumps, and log analysis.
Performance & Capacity Management
  • Monitor/tune TCP/IP stacks, VTAM definitions, EE connections.
  • Optimize session routing, buffer sizing, and bandwidth utilization.
  • Forecast capacity requirements for network growth.
Security & Compliance
  • Implement security controls in coordination with RACF/ACF2/TSS.
  • Configure firewalls, AT-TLS, IPSec, SSL for secure communications.
  • Ensure compliance with SOX, PCI-DSS, ITGC standards.
Disaster Recovery & Continuity
  • Develop/test DR plans for mainframe networking.
  • Support failover strategies and high availability.
Change & Release Management
  • Plan and execute migrations and feature enablement.
  • Document configurations and troubleshooting steps.
  • Follow ITIL processes for incident, change, and problem management.
Collaboration & Support
  • Work closely with system programmers, storage, and security teams.
  • Provide 24x7 on-call support for critical issues.
  • Assist application teams in configuring mainframe connectivity.
Required Skills & Qualifications
  • Strong experience in IBM z/OS networking (TCP/IP, VTAM, SNA).
  • Hands-on knowledge of Enterprise Extender, HiperSockets, NetView.
  • Proficiency with routing, DNS, FTP, TN3270, encryption protocols.
  • Expertise with SMP/E maintenance.
  • Strong troubleshooting and performance tuning skills.
  • Familiarity with JCL, REXX, automation tools.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience as a Mainframe Network System Programmer.
  • Experience in Sysplex networking and high availability.
  • Knowledge of integration with distributed systems via TCP/IP.
  • Familiarity with tools such as OMEGAMON for IP, NetView.
  • Understanding of audit/compliance standards (SOX, PCI-DSS, ISO27001).
