Job Title: Principal Data Scientist
Duration: 6 Months (Contract)
Location: Remote EST / CST hours
About the Role:
We re seeking a highly experienced Principal Data Scientist to lead AI and ML initiatives at the intersection of healthcare, ethical AI, and regulatory compliance. This is a hands-on role focused on model development, testing, and governance, particularly in NLP and conversational AI.

About the Role:
We re seeking a highly experienced Principal Data Scientist to lead AI and ML initiatives at the intersection of healthcare, ethical AI, and regulatory compliance. This is a hands-on role focused on model development, testing, and governance, particularly in NLP and conversational AI.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the development and evaluation of AI/ML systems, especially NLP and LLM-based models.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Legal, Compliance, Product) on responsible AI deployment.
- Create technical documentation, job aids, and guidance for responsible AI practices.
- Automate testing processes using Python and maintain robust evaluation datasets.
- Identify vulnerabilities, including PII/PHI exposure risks in AI outputs.
- Mentor junior data scientists and contribute to a culture of ethical AI and continuous learning.
- Stay current with AI/ML research and regulatory trends.
- Design and execute red team tests for conversational AI systems.
Required Qualifications:
- BS degree in Computer Science, Applied Math/Stats, or related field
- 5+ years of experience in full ML lifecycle: development, deployment, and maintenance
- 5+ years of experience with NLP techniques and models
- Expert-level Python skills; strong with ML libraries (scikit-learn, Pandas, Numpy)
- Deep understanding of ethical AI and fairness in model development
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in healthcare systems (e.g., claims, call centers, clinical research)
- Proven track record translating business needs into technical AI solutions
- Experience with LLMs, prompt engineering, and adversarial testing
- Familiarity with regulatory and security frameworks in AI for healthcare
- Basic knowledge of information security principles
