POSITION SUMMARY:
The CMIO is responsible for providing leadership for physician education, acceptance, and usage of computerized technologies, particularly electronic medical records, to improve patient care. The CMIO will act as liaison between clinicians, ancillary departments and information systems to align IS clinical standards, workflow and policies and procedures. This position will also act as a change agent working with hospital leaders and clinicians to adopt new processes, technologies and models of care. This position will help leverage Doctors Hospital at Renaissance investment in information technology to improve patient safety, quality of care, clinical outcomes, and cost of care. Important to this effort is the ability to successfully partner with the Information Technology (IT) Services leadership team and to develop effective communication with physicians and key clinical stakeholders regarding the development of the short term and long term vision of full integration of the clinical information system solution across the enterprise, linking ambulatory EMR, research and clinical areas, and deployment of Health Information Exchange along with attesting for Meaningful Use.
POSITION EDUCATION/ QUALIFICATIONS :
- Current TX licensed MD with extensive and current inpatient management experience.
- A medical degree (MD or DO), Board Certification in a medical or surgical specialty.
- An advanced degree in medical informatics, or related fields (including science or engineering) or completion of a fellowship in medical informatics is highly desirable.
- Good written and verbal communication skills required.
- Some evening or weekend work will be required.
- Bilingual English/Spanish.

- Must demonstrate proficiency in Electronic Health Record post hire by attending required training and passing proficiency test.

Responsibilities:
POSITION RESPONSIBILITES:
- Promotes the facility mission, vision and values by effectively communicating them to others. Considers mission, vision and values in developing services, standards and practices.
- Work collaboratively with CIO and all IT membership to develop and vet short term and long term goals within the overall IT strategic plan that leverage technology as an enabler of institutional goals.
- Interacts with physicians and other clinicians extensively in topic areas which include, but is not limited to: mobile devices, remote access methods, electronic documentation, health information exchange, telemedicine, telehealth, and more.
- Explore new and emerging technologies (RTLS, RFID, Mobile computing, Social Networking, PHRs, etc) and develop strategies to best utilize these technology advances in clinical care.
- Provide leadership for the development and use of a robust clinical-computing platform that addresses and is responsive to evolving faculty and staff needs.
- Serves as voice of the customer and primary physician liaison between medical staff, Physician Network providers, and administration on all clinical IT issues.
- Develops standards and policies in medical terminology and application to increase efficiency in patient care.
- Actively advocates for and supports physician perspectives and requirements for clinical IT design and function with the organization departments, staff and administration and likewise advocates for and supports administrative and organizational IT priorities, decisions, and concerns with the medical staff members, both formally and informally.
- Leads development of clinical "rules" supporting patient care and protocol research, as well as, the design of clinical system features supporting protocol management and the use of the system to leverage the clinicians' time and maximize communication with affiliates and referring physicians.
- Leads cultural change across the medical community to adopt IT solutions to the fullest, including influencing physicians to change the way they practice medicine by leveraging data and IT.
- Leads design of clinical pathway models with physician, nursing and administrative leadership, and will assist in modification of these models to gain maximum efficacy and support for patient care protocols.
- Provides direction and support to other physicians undertaking informatics functions including training and clinical decision support.
- Develops empathy and understanding of physician needs and builds relationships with physicians to gain support of IT initiatives. Is highly responsive to users needs, including training, to assure widespread acceptance and provider use of the clinical systems.
- Provide counsel to DHR leadership and client departments in areas of expertise and responsibility.
