JOB SUMMARY / PURPOSE
We are seeking a Data Architect to help establish a modern, cloud-first IT landscape that will serve a large multi-state customer base. This Data Architect will design and maintain an enterprise data architecture to optimize our Oracle Utilities cloud suite (ERP, CCS, WACS, HCM, OFS) while integrating additional enterprise and external data sources.
In this role, you will develop scalable, secure data solutions aligned with the guiding pillars of reliability, performance, cost optimization, security, and operational efficiency. Strong technical expertise and communication skills are critical to align business, security, and operational goals.
ACCOUNTABILITIES & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Data Architecture Strategy & Design

Develop and maintain the enterprise data architecture and roadmap, aligning solutions with business objectives and guiding principles.

Define and document data architecture standards (models, integration patterns, naming conventions) ensuring designs meet business requirements.

Evaluate emerging data technologies and recommend improvements to keep the platform modern and efficient.
Data Integration & Pipeline Development

Design and build data integration pipelines connecting the Oracle Utilities suite to the enterprise data platform.

Ensure pipelines are reliable and fault-tolerant, with automated error handling and recovery.

Optimize ingestion and transformation processes (Azure Data Factory, Microsoft Fabric) for low latency and high throughput.

Integrate additional enterprise and external data sources for seamless data flow.
Data Governance & Security

Implement robust data governance with Microsoft Purview to catalog assets, manage metadata, and track lineage.

Enforce zero-trust and least-privilege principles; ensure sensitive data encryption in transit and at rest.

Establish data quality standards and validation processes to maintain a single source of truth and regulatory compliance.
Performance & Reliability

Engineer architecture for high performance and reliability, with designs ready for peak loads.

Implement redundancy and failover mechanisms; test disaster recovery regularly.

Monitor performance and fine-tune configurations to meet or exceed SLA targets.
Cost Optimization & Operational Efficiency

Optimize storage and processing costs through right-sizing cloud resources.

Track usage and spending trends for cost-efficiency.

Automate deployments and routine operations using infrastructure-as-code and CI/CD practices.

Keep documentation and runbooks updated; simplify designs where possible.
Collaboration & Best Practices

Collaborate with architects, analysts, and engineers for end-to-end solutions.

Participate in architecture reviews to ensure enterprise standards are met.

Champion best practices: Keep It Super Simple, requirements-driven design, and peer review culture.

Mentor junior staff and promote continuous improvement.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education
-
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field preferred.
Experience
-
7+ years in data architecture, data engineering, or related roles implementing enterprise data solutions.

Utilities, energy, or asset-intensive industry experience strongly preferred.
Skills & Knowledge
-
Microsoft Purview experience.
-
Oracle Database and SQL (data modeling, complex queries, performance tuning).
-
Azure Data Factory, Microsoft Fabric, Azure Data Lake Storage, Azure SQL Database.
-
Proven data warehouse/lake design and ETL/ELT expertise.
-
Strong relational and dimensional modeling skills.
-
SaaS integration experience (Oracle Utilities suite or similar).

Data security best practices and compliance knowledge.
-
Excellent problem-solving and communication abilities.
Certifications

Required: Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Engineer Associate (DP-203)

Required: Microsoft Certified: Power BI Data Analyst Associate (PL-300)

Preferred: Azure Solutions Architect, Oracle Database, or DAMA CDMP
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Operate standard office equipment and computer systems.

Occasionally exert up to 50 lbs. of force.
WORKING CONDITIONS

Onsite role, standard office environment.

Occasional overtime and emergency call-outs.
