At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We're working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight!

This role is part of the Blue Origin Engines business unit, where our focus is the design, development, manufacturing, and testing of engines and propulsion systems. Built for multiple uses, our family of engines is powering the next generation of rockets for commercial, civil, national security, and human spaceflight.

As part of a hardworking team of engineers on the BE-3U program, you will work at the intersection of program management, engineering, supply chain, test, manufacturing, and quality to attack some of the most impactful opportunities to increase mission performance. You'll own quickly implementing cross-program upgrade activities that accelerate team-wide execution on engine performance, cost, and lead time improvements. In this role, you will partner with product leads, design engineers, and manufacturing engineers to define, refine, and realize opportunities to increase the speed of design, manufacturing, and testing. You will also interface with internal and external support teams to help solve technical and organizational challenges that might hinder our pace. As the owner of projects that span across the BE-3U life cycle, you must enjoy identifying and solving communication and process challenges, earning trust, and improving the overall performance of all teams involved. We are seeking a self-motivated and highly organized individual who can work with minimal direction to successfully execute engineering and manufacturing upgrade activities. This position will have a measurable effect on Blue's upper stage engine performance and directly impact the history of space exploration.

Special Mentions:
  • Location: Renton, WA or Huntsville, AL
  • Travel expected up to 15% of the time
  • Multiple positions available

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Own and execute plans to reach development and production milestones on BE-3U. Identify, elevate, and action key input metrics to engine cost and performance to flex project direction and execution accordingly.
  • Identify schedule-critical hardware, equipment, people, and facilities - resolve constraints and fix defects at the root.
  • Define, manage, and action key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure cross product team fabrication and assembly success. Leverage data to make informed decisions and iterate on manufacturing and design changes across product teams.
  • Analyze non-conformance metrics and partner with the quality organization to apply opportunities for process improvements that improve rate manufacturing performance.
  • Coordinate and partner with the operations and supply chain organizations to execute manufacturing upgrade initiatives.
  • Identify and mitigate program risks - remove blockers, investigate/escalate issues, and close on solutions.
  • Manage interdisciplinary engineering and execution tasks to improve overall program success.
  • Maintain clear and consistent communication with team leadership and demonstrate strong ownership around cost reduction and producibility projects.
  • Champion a collaborative culture to attack challenges to engine cost, performance, and manufacturing rate.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • B.S. degree in engineering.
  • 6+ years of experience, including component design, fabrication, assembly, and/or testing using a variety of methods, techniques, and materials.
  • Experience defining and executing complex projects with multiple functional interfaces.
  • Experience in systems engineering or systems thinking.
  • Possess high attention to detail and strong organizational/coordination skills.
  • Strong aptitude for troubleshooting and quick thinking to keep projects moving forward.
  • Demonstrated ability to build trusting and effective working relationships that improve team performance and deliver results.
  • Working knowledge of aerospace materials, treatments and manufacturing processes.
  • Working knowledge of configuration management principles and practices.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion

Preferred Qualifications:
  • M.S. degree in engineering
  • Experience with complex component development and manufacturing in the aerospace industry (space or aviation).
  • Experience with the design, test, and manufacturing of rocket engine valves, turbomachinery, combustion devices, or ancillary components.
  • Experience with cradle to grave product development, including leading design reviews, production readiness reviews, and technical readiness reviews.
  • Proficiency in CAD and large assembly model management and configuration (Creo Parametric and Windchill PLM preferred).
  • Experience implementing, customizing, or improving configuration management systems in a development engineering environment.
  • Experience with creating tools to improve documentation, visibility, and tracking of scope of work and forecasted work.
  • Experience leading small teams.
  • Experience in Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA).
  • Experience with vertical integration and/or scaling production of complex assemblies.
  • Experience with automation.
  • Experience with leveraging Artificial Intelligence.
