Job Title Network Solution Architect

Location Washington, DC - Remote Duration 12+ Months Contract Direct client

The Solution Architect - Senior works on multiple IT projects as a member of a project team and is responsible for the overall direction, guidance and definition of an architecture program that effectively supports Amtrak s Business Strategy. They assist in facilitating the development of the future-state architecture, ensuring its effective adoption. Further, Solution Architects interface across all business areas, acting as visionaries to proactively assist in defining the direction for future projects. They also conceive strategies, solutions, build consensus, and sell/execute solutions and are also involved in all aspects of the project life cycle, from the initial kickoff through the requirements analysis, design, and implementation.

The Solution Architect ensures applications and servers are built with best practices, reusability, and an understanding of how to use technology to best meet business needs. The role mirrors Amtrak s commitment to provide support to ensure projects are designed and built to support the Enterprise Architecture.

The Solution Architect demonstrates the ability to think and operate on both the strategic and tactical levels (e.g., He/she is able to devise a short-term solution that complements the longer-term goals).

He/she serves as a Change Agent who effectively challenges the status quo and helps the team embrace improved methods and newer technologies.

He/she will be responsible for meeting and presenting to the Enterprise Architecture Review Council to gain approval and advice from all areas of IT to ensure sustainable services and applications are created.

Deliverables

  • Create formal Conceptual and Solution Network Architectures and present to senior staff, business, and the Enterprise Architecture Review Council.

Requirements

  • Bachelor s degree, specialized training, or equivalent work experience
  • Requires fifteen (15) to twenty (20) years of experience in multiple IT areas and ten (10) to fifteen (15) years of relevant technology network architecture experience
  • Expert level hands on routing and switching architecture and engineering capabilities in Data Center and enterprise network architectures
  • CCIE certification

Preferred

  • Well-grounded in state-of-the-art principles of architectural modeling, service-oriented architecture, enterprise information management and software design and development
  • Network Solution Architect for two or more large-scale, heterogeneous IT programs.
  • Demonstrated success at developing solutions that solve business problems
  • Demonstrated experience in the design and implementation of an SOA and Services in an enterprise setting
  • Transportation Industry experience
  • Broad IT experience in networking technologies
  • Demonstrated knowledge of an EA frameworks
