Summary
This role supports the organization, processing, preservation, and access of physical and digital archival collections. The position reports to the Archives Manager and works closely with the Senior Digital Archivist and cross-functional teams.
Key Skills & Qualifications
Minimum two years of experience in a professional archives setting
Knowledge of archival standards and methodologies (MPLP, DACS)
Experience with archival management systems (ArchivEra, ArchivesSpace); Preservica preferred
Familiarity with physical and digital preservation best practices
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and use ladders/stairs
Valid Illinois driver s license and personal vehicle required
Key Responsibilities
Appraise, arrange, describe, and process archival collections
Rehouse, label, and remove duplicate materials
Create inventories, metadata, and digitization documentation
Maintain collection records and update electronic inventories
Create or assist with DACS-compliant finding aids and digital ingest
Handle sensitive materials with confidentiality
Support shipping, storage upgrades, and collection moves
Assist with outreach and activities that improve collection discoverability
Perform related archival duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
Processing Archivist: Master s degree in Library or Archival Science (or equivalent)
Archives Processing Assistant: Open to candidates without professional archival credentials
