Mid-Level Multi-Skill Engineering Manager | Airplane Captain

Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) Mobility, Surveillance & Bombers (MS&B) is seeking a highly-motivated Mid-Level Multi-Skill Engineering Manager to lead a team of airplane captains in furthering our goal of delivering best in class Aerial Refueling capability to the United States Air Force and other international customers in Tukwila, WA.

This role and its team will oversee aircraft through the final build and delivery process while ensuring airplane-centered leadership for a cross-functional team.

Position Responsibilities:
  • Lead and provide day-to-day leadership to the airplane captains which:
    • Direct engineering leadership, technical support, and coordination during aircraft acceptance testing through aircraft delivery.
    • Serve as primary coordinator and customer-facing technical lead for squawk resolution related to Airplane Systems, Mission Systems, and Aerial Refueling Systems.
    • Coordinate cross-functional stakeholders: Liaison Engineering (LE), Production Operations, Parts/Tooling, Design Engineering (DE), QA, Flight Crews, and DCMA.
    • Maintain real-time documentation and status of all squawks and test findings, capture lessons learned, and support process improvement and RCCA activity.
  • Build and maintain positive leadership relationships with Design Engineering, Liaison/Manufacturing Engineering, Quality Assurance, Production Operations, Supplier Management, and Tooling.
  • Ensure effective escalation processes are in place to ensure timely resolution and help needed are provided in support of airplane acceptance/delivery activities.
  • Ensure timely and transparent communication with all stakeholders, including senior leaders.
  • Drive alignment across team activities and priorities to ensure effective and efficient issue resolution while minimizing confusion, mistakes, and rework.
  • Foster professionalism and emotional resilience during issue resolution.
  • Maintain appropriate SME contact information and quick access to stakeholder contact information to support urgent coordination.
  • Support program improvement initiatives: Flight Squawk RCCAs & reduction, process improvements, tool kits, spare part staging.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
  • Bachelor of Science from an accredited course of study, in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), computer science, data science, mathematics, physics, chemistry or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement.
  • 5+ years of engineering experience.
  • Experience in mission systems engineering, including experience with aircraft modifications and system integration.
  • Aerial refueling experience.
  • Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) experience.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
  • Prior experience supporting aircraft acceptance testing, delivery, or field operations.
  • Experience working with DCMA, government flight representatives, and customer-facing technical engagements.
  • Background in troubleshooting flight test squawks and coordinating multi-disciplinary engineering teams.
  • Proven ability to lead through influence, drive decisions, and maintain team alignment under pressure.
  • Excellent cross-functional coordination and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and adapt to dynamic operational schedules.
  • Strong written and verbal communication; experience briefing technical status to customers and leadership.
  • Ability to effectively communicate at all levels of management, customers, and partners.
  • Master of Science in an engineering discipline.
  • Previous management experience.
  • Ability to build a safe environment of inclusion, transparency, and trust.
  • Leadership skills to lead and influence positive outcomes.
  • Previous experience in leading, mentoring, and engaging individuals and teams.
  • Experience providing active mentorship and career guidance.

Summary pay range: $166,600 - $225,400
