Job Description

Are you a passionate UI/UX designer who thrives on solving complex problems and making a tangible impact? We are seeking a seasoned Senior UI/UX Designer to lead the design of transformative, user-centered experiences for critical eligibility systems.

In this role, you will be central to improving the accessibility, usability, and responsiveness of government services. You will dive deep into user research, navigate complex business logic, and design intuitive interfaces for systems that incorporate AI and machine learning. Key Responsibilities

  • Lead Discovery & Strategy: Conduct user research, journey mapping, and discovery workshops to gain deep insights and identify optimization opportunities.
  • End-to-End Design Ownership: Create wireframes, prototypes (low and high-fidelity), and visual hierarchies that adhere to WCAG accessibility guidelines and branding standards.
  • Design for Complexity: Translate complex business rules, regulatory requirements, and AI/ML insights into clear, understandable, and user-friendly interfaces.
  • Collaborate & Iterate: Work closely with developers, product managers, and stakeholders (including partners like Code for America) in an agile environment to ensure design feasibility and alignment with business objectives.
  • Advocate for the User: Champion user-centered design principles throughout the product development lifecycle, facilitating feedback sessions and presenting design rationales.
  • Leverage Tools & Data: Utilize Figma, Adobe XD, Sketch, and analytics tools (like Hotjar) to inform design decisions and validate solutions through usability testing.
<>Required Qualifications</>
  • 4+ yearsof hands-on experience designing interfaces for enterprise-level systems.
  • A strong portfolio demonstrating expertise in user research, information architecture, wireframing, and prototyping.
  • 4+ yearsof proficiency with modern design tools (e.g., Figma, Adobe XD, Sketch).
  • 4+ yearsof experience applying core UX principles (hierarchy, contrast, alignment) to create responsive and accessible (WCAG) web applications.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with both technical and non-technical teams, translating business needs into intuitive design solutions.
  • Experience supporting agile development cycles with iterative design deliverables.
<>Preferred Qualification </>
  • 5+ yearsof experience designing graphical diagrams and visual narratives to explain complex workflows, timelines, or system architecture.
  • Experience designing interfaces for AI/ML-powered systems, with an understanding of explainable AI (XAI) principles.
  • 3+ yearsof experience facilitating design workshops and stakeholder feedback sessions.
  • A demonstrated ability to manage multiple design streams and projects concurrently.
  • Experience in highly regulated domains such as government services, healthcare, or finance.
  • A Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, HCI, Computer Science, or a related field (equivalent experience accepted).
