Our client is looking for a Azure DBA with a Long-Term Contract project in Phoenix, AZ below is the detailed requirement.

Job Title: Azure DBA

Contract

Key Responsibilities:

  • Cloud Database Management: Administer, monitor, and maintain Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Managed Instance, and SQL Server on Azure Virtual Machines.
  • Performance Tuning and Optimization: Proactively monitor database performance using Azure Monitor, Query Store, and other tools. Analyze and optimize complex T-SQL queries, indexes, and database configurations to ensure optimal performance and resource utilization.
  • Security and Compliance (HIPAA): Implement and enforce robust security protocols to protect Protected Health Information (PHI). This includes configuring and managing Transparent Data Encryption (TDE), data masking, firewalls, and implementing Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) and least-privilege principles. Ensure all database activities and configurations are compliant with HIPAA and other healthcare regulations.
  • High Availability and Disaster Recovery: Design, implement, and manage high-availability solutions like Azure SQL Database's Geo-replication and Failover Groups to ensure business continuity and minimal downtime. Develop and test disaster recovery plans regularly.
  • Backup and Recovery: Establish and maintain comprehensive backup and recovery strategies, including automated backups and point-in-time restore capabilities, in accordance with our Recovery Point Objective (RPO) and Recovery Time Objective (RTO) requirements.
  • Automation and Scripting: Develop and maintain automation scripts using PowerShell or Azure CLI to streamline routine database administration tasks, deployments, and patching.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with data engineers, application developers, and security teams to support new projects, troubleshoot issues, and optimize data-driven applications.
  • Cost Management: Monitor and analyze Azure database costs, recommending and implementing strategies for cost optimization without compromising performance or security.
  • Documentation: Maintain up-to-date documentation for all database infrastructure, configurations, and procedures.

Required Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated expertise in administering and managing Microsoft Azure SQL Database and/or Azure SQL Managed Instance.
  • Strong proficiency in T-SQL for database administration, scripting, and performance tuning.
  • Experience with on-premise SQL Server migrations to Azure.
  • Hands-on experience with Azure services, including Azure Monitor, Azure Portal, and Azure CLI/PowerShell.
  • Proven understanding of database security best practices and compliance frameworks, particularly HIPAA.
  • In-depth knowledge of database high availability, disaster recovery, and backup strategies.
  • Experience in a healthcare payer or provider environment, with a strong understanding of healthcare data (e.g., claims, enrollment, provider data).
