What You Will Do

Pratt & Whitney's Puerto Rico Hot Section Engineering (HSE) is seeking a goal oriented, detail-focus Engineer to work on existing and next generation of military gas turbine engines. Engineer would provide analytical support for the preliminary design phase through detailed design, development testing, production, and field support of hot section engineering hardware. Possible opportunities include Military Rotor, Exhaust Nozzle and Static Hardware. Engineer will apply scientific principles to analyze, innovate, design, develop, and implement technologies, components, sub-systems, machines, tools, and systems to ensure compliance to specifications, requirements, and customer guarantees across applicable operating conditions. Ensures novel ideas and implementations are captured and protected using applicable IP processes and tools. Hot Section Engineering is responsible for the design, development, technology maturation and in service support of all diffuser cases, combustors, turbines (vanes, blades, rotors and cases), augmenters (military), nozzles and associated fuel systems for all military, commercial and industrial engine models and radial auxiliary power units.
  • Provide analytical support through all design phase, production manufacturing and maintenance repair and overhaul (MRO) services.
  • Perform state-of-the-art ANSYS finite element analysis for stress, vibration, mission low cycle fatigue life, residual life (fracture mechanics) prediction, and optimization; stress testing and data reduction; production and in-service field investigations.
  • Participate in cross-discipline integrated product teams to provide design solutions that balance performance, cost, schedule, and quality requirements.
  • Ability to write clear documentation, as well as to create and provide impactful, persuasive technical presentations to IPT, CIPT and customers.
  • Develop and sustain a healthy work relationship based on mutual trust with pears, internal and external customers where significant interaction is expected.
  • Attend group meetings, teleconferences and/or training required.
  • Actively participate in initiatives for continuous improvement using CORE operation system and support AS9100 efforts.
  • Based on business needs, the incumbent may be required to support other duties/functions within the company.
  • Support structures community initiatives.
  • English (read, write, speak) is required when communicating with customers, co-workers, or supervisors who only speak English

Qualifications You Must Have
  • Enrolled in a degree program in Engineering
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0
  • This position may require access to systems/tools that are restricted to individuals who possess ship.

Qualifications We Prefer
  • Effective written and verbal communication.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude to understand the interactions of complex assemblies and how to translate those interactions into sound analytical assumptions.
  • Experience with software and programing languages. ANSYS, Workbench, ABAQUS, PATRAN / NASTRAN, APDL, MATLAB, VBA, Python, C++, Fortran, MS Office or NX Teamcenter.
