Job Details

A mainframe Project Manager oversees large-scale projects involving mainframe systems, leading teams to deliver projects on scope, schedule, and budget, and acting as the central point of contact for both technical and business stakeholders. This role typically includes planning, risk mitigation, financial management, resource allocation, and continuous communication with team members and clients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead mainframe technology projects, including modernization and migrations from legacy systems to cloud or new platforms.
  • Develop detailed project plans, coordinate teams, and manage day-to-day deliverables and milestones.
  • Analyze risks, provide mitigation strategies, and ensure all critical deadlines and service level agreements (SLAs) are met.
  • Oversee financial aspects of projects, including budget monitoring and adjustment.
  • Ensure alignment of project activities with organizational goals and client needs.
  • Foster collaboration between onshore and offshore development, testing, and support teams.
  • Report progress, challenges, and solutions to stakeholders and upper management.
  • Manage and mentor project team members, ensuring they have the required skills and training.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Experience managing mainframe projects and teams, preferably with technologies like Kubernetes, Microservices, CICD COBOL, JCL, CICS, and related tools.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in project management methodologies (e.g., SCRUM, Agile, or PMP certification preferred).
  • Ability to manage cross-functional and geographically dispersed teams.
  • Expertise in risk management and problem-solving.
  • Familiarity with project management software and tools (e.g., MS Project).
