Job Title: Systems Safety Engineer

Location: Melbourne, FL

About the Role
We are seeking a Systems Safety Engineer to ensure the safety and reliability of complex systems throughout their lifecycle. In this role, you will review product systems, support equipment, facilities, and operational specifications to establish and maintain safety requirements. You will collaborate across engineering disciplines to integrate safety into design and development processes, conduct hazard analyses, and develop safety documentation to meet program and certification standards.

Responsibilities
  • Analyze and recommend safety criteria to mitigate or eliminate hazards in system design, equipment, and procedures.
  • Evaluate system designs, support equipment, and facilities to ensure compliance with applicable safety specifications and standards.
  • Develop, review, and approve safety documents, including system safety analyses and reports, to support customer and certification requirements.
  • Apply knowledge of safety engineering principles and standards such as MIL-STD-882, MIL-HDBK-516, and other relevant industry practices.
  • Collaborate with systems, software, and test engineering teams to verify safety-critical functions.
  • Participate in accident investigations to identify root causes and corrective actions.
  • Identify technical issues and propose solutions to ensure safety integration throughout development.
  • Maintain safety requirements and participate in stakeholder meetings to review and discuss them.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Strong working knowledge of safety standards such as MIL-STD-882, and familiarity with industry or military standards like DO-178B/C, DO-254, and ARP-4761.
  • Experience performing hazard analyses, including Preliminary Hazard Analysis (PHA) and Functional Hazard Analysis (FHA).
  • Ability to develop safety documentation to meet customer and program requirements.
  • Familiarity with requirements management tools (e.g., DOORS) or other system safety tools.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with military standards such as MIL-STD-882E.
  • Proficiency in safety analysis techniques (e.g., Fault Tree Analysis).
  • Experience in domains such as aircraft, missile, or software safety.
  • Knowledge of related standards like ARP-4761 and certifications such as CSP/ASP.
