Job Details

The AWS Cloud Infrastructure and Sysops Engineer serves as a high-level technical expert responsible for the stability, security, and performance of cloud-hosted environments. This role ensures that all AWS infrastructure aligns with enterprise standards, reference architectures, and strict governance guardrails.

As a critical resource for mission-critical applications, the Specialist provides advanced operational support, infrastructure maintenance, and compliance oversight for various workloads.

Core Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Solutions, Architecture, and Enterprise Technology teams to lead AWS infrastructure capacity planning. Ensure all services reside on a stable, scalable platform optimized for high availability.
  • Conduct deep-dive analysis of AWS environments and applications to recommend proactive strategies for system reliability, cost efficiency, and performance tuning.
  • Coordinate between cloud infrastructure, networking, security, database, and development teams to guarantee 24x7x365 uptime for mission-critical systems.
  • Execute comprehensive operational monitoring, centralized logging, and rapid alert response across all AWS cloud environments.
  • Partner with senior leadership to plan and execute highly complex cloud migrations, legacy system modernization, and large-scale application deployments.
  • Provide expert technical assistance for centralized AWS resource support. Advise management on infrastructure design, resource acquisition, security posture, and operational workflows.
  • Review and document sophisticated AWS network designs. Implement approved patterns including VPCs, subnets, Transit Gateways, and Direct Connect to maximize data security and throughput.
  • Implement and enforce robust AWS security controls in alignment with enterprise architecture standards. Ensure continuous compliance with regulatory requirements (such as CJIS) and internal security policies.
  • Investigate and resolve complex cloud-related security, identity, and access control issues by collaborating closely with developers, architects, and database analysts.
  • : Serve as a subject matter expert or technical lead on high-complexity, multi-departmental projects involving shared services and AWS-hosted solutions.
  • Provide mentoring, technical training, and structured knowledge transfer to junior staff regarding AWS operational best practices.
  • Develop and maintain technical runbooks, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and desk manuals to ensure business continuity and disaster recovery readiness.

Desired Skills

  • Minimum of 10+ years of professional experience in Information Technology, with at least 5+ years of specialized focus on AWS Cloud Technologies.
  • Bachelor s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience).
  • Advanced understanding of the AWS Well-Architected Framework, including operational excellence, security, and cost optimization.
  • Strong capability in Python, Bash, or AWS CLI to drive operational efficiency and automate repetitive tasks.
  • Solid understanding of modern application development, including microservices, containerization (Docker/Kubernetes), and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Ability to lead the assessment of emerging AWS features and third-party tools, providing data-driven recommendations for architectural adoption.
  • Expert-level management of ECS Fargate, EC2, and AWS Lambda. Proficiency in architecting for scale using Auto Scaling and Elastic Load Balancing (ALB/NLB).
  • Deep understanding of hybrid and complex networking patterns including VPC design, Transit Gateway, NAT Gateway, Direct Connect, Route 53, and AWS Firewall Manager.
  • Hands-on experience implementing "Zero Trust" and "Least Privilege" using IAM, Cognito, and AWS KMS. Proficiency in proactive threat detection and compliance monitoring via GuardDuty, AWS Inspector, Security Hub, and WAF.
  • Operational support for structured and unstructured data across S3, EFS, RDS, DynamoDB, and DocumentDB.
  • Mastery in automating resource provisioning and configuration using Terraform and AWS CloudFormation.
  • Expertise in centralized logging and performance analysis using CloudWatch, CloudTrail, AWS Config, and Trusted Advisor.
  • Experience managing asynchronous messaging and integration services including RabbitMQ, SQS, SNS, and API Gateway.
  • Proven ability to align AWS environments with CJIS, COPA, and OA IT policies and regulatory guardrails.
  • Strong analytical skills for resolving complex cloud-related outages and optimizing resource costs.
  • Experience providing technical guidance during Architecture Review processes and mentoring cross-functional teams.
