Job Description:
Apex Systems is seeking a Power Engineer to join our client in Greenwood Village, CO. This is a 6-12 month contract-to-hire opportunity.
The client is currently developing a variety of energy-related opportunities, and seeking an experienced engineer with inter-disciplinary skills including power-related electrical engineering experience and strong software development capabilities to help move our efforts forward. The successful candidate will be comfortable with both hardware and software.
In this role, you will research, architect, develop and support innovative powering solutions that complement the companys hybrid fiber-coaxial (HFC) network and consumer premise equipment (CPE). You will lead development of new opportunities that impact power utilization, storage, generation, measurement, monitoring and carriage across the companys HFC network and related facilities, with a view toward improving energy efficiency and reducing operational expenses and carbon emissions, while increasing network reliability. In addition, you will serve as a key engineering resource in the development of new revenue and service opportunities in the energy domain for the company, including demand response and virtual power plant applications. To accomplish this, you will work closely with network engineers, business analysts, and executives across the companys Product & Technology organization.
You will be able to identify opportunities to improve energy efficiency in HFC networks, architect solutions, and work with vendors and internal teams to prove key concepts and develop opportunities. You think creatively to explore new concepts and are grounded in operational safety.
In practice, much of our power-related efforts will be facilitated by software systems, and prototyping such software will be an important aspect of the work. This is likely to include systems for network-based management, monitoring, software control and testing automation, as well as optimization/forecasting analyses including use of machine learning techniques.
The ideal candidate will possess significant knowledge, skills and experience in the following areas:
AC powering of devices, including hands-on experience designing and building devices and their power supplies
Conversion between AC and DC power, including grid-tied power inversion
Software development/prototyping of monitoring and remote management/control/automation of networked devices
Development/prototyping of optimization and forecasting algorithms using data analysis and machine learning
General familiarity with power systems desirable, including:
Electrical power transmission and distribution grids
Renewable power generation, including solar, energy storage technologies, microgrids
Demand response, dispatchable power, and virtual power plants
General familiarity with HFC network architecture and technologies desirable, including HFC quasi square wave powering
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience:
Power Systems - 5-10 years of experience
Software Development - 5-10 years of experience
Technology management experience working with vendors and cross-functional internal teams - 5-10 years of experience
Education:
BS in electrical engineering, computer science or equivalent
Technical Skills:
Significant knowledge, skills and experience in many of the following areas:
