Dir of Network Engineering
Job Details
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- In partnership with other members of the IT team, develop the technical vision for the networks and network devices deployed on behalf of customer needs.
- Develop network systems connectivity solutions that support customer's strategic and technical needs.
- Engage in proactive capacity planning for customer network systems so as to support each customer's growth and development.
- Function as a key technical resource for the customer service team and the executive leadership team, providing critical guidance related to all network engineering issues.
- Supervise other members of the engineering team.
- Build strong relationships with the customer service team, field service team, call center and network operations center.
- Implements policies and procedures that aid in the company's journey to becoming an "Employer of Choice."
- Provides feedback, direction and support to operational leadership and their teams with respect to all issues involving individual team members.
- Establishes and implements short- and long-range organizational goals, objectives, strategic plans, policies, and operating procedures; monitors and evaluates programmatic and operational effectiveness, and effects changes required for improvement.
- In cooperation with human resources, directs the development of the engineering team and field service technicians.
- Designs, establishes, and maintains an organizational structure and staffing to effectively accomplish the organization's goals and objectives.
- Evaluates departmental procedures to streamline and/or automate processes, improve service to the rest of the organization, reduce paper-flow, and implements changes as required.
- Ensures clear and honest communications with salaried and hourly team members.
- Develops and manages annual budgets related to engineering initiatives.
- Provides value engineering to help customers meet their budget needs.
- Recommends and participates in the development of company policies and procedures; may serve on cross-departmental planning and policy-making committees.
- Provides broad administrative leadership, working in tandem with the VP of Engineering.
- Performs other miscellaneous functions and duties as requested by the Executive Leadership Team.
Qualifications, Experience and Education:
Minimum requirements:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent (preferably in network engineering, IT operations, computer science or a related field).
- A minimum of 7 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified above, including in-depth knowledge of network infrastructure, carrier connectivity, and associated components.
- Additional experience/proven history of success in accomplishing the principal duties and responsibilities associated with the responsibilities outlined above may be an acceptable substitute for the degree qualifications.
Preferred Requirements:
- Master's degree in network engineering, computer science or a related field or an MBA with specialization in computer science or a related specialty.
- At least 10 years of network design and management experience with a telecommunications provider or other comparable organization.
- 10 years of experience leading network or other infrastructure teams
- Experience managing a remote team of employees.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse environment.
- Knowledge of organizational development theory and practices.
- Skilled in budget preparation and fiscal management.
- Skilled in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures, formulating policy, and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures.
- Proficient in design, implementation, and evaluation of Enterprise Network, WAN, LAN, SDWAN, Wireless, VoIP and SIP solutions.
- Substantial experience in network architecture and design.
- Ability to analyze and assess training and development needs.
- Knowledge of computerized information systems.
- Ability to supervise and train employees, including organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments.
