Job Title: COBOL SQL Developer
Location: Irvine, CA (Onsite)
Type: Long-term Contract
Required Minimum experience: 8 years
Job Description:
The ideal candidate will have solid experience in mainframe development, particularly with COBOL, and strong proficiency in SQL for data manipulation and backend processing.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and maintain applications using COBOL in a mainframe environment
- Write and optimize SQL queries for data extraction, transformation, and reporting
- Collaborate with business analysts and stakeholders to understand requirements
- Perform code reviews, unit testing, and debugging to ensure high-quality deliverables
- Provide support for production issues and enhancements
- Ensure system performance, reliability, and scalability
- Participate in all phases of the SDLC, including design, development, and deployment
Required Skills:
- 7+ years of experience in COBOL development
- Strong experience with SQL (DB2 or similar relational databases)
- Hands-on experience with JCL, VSAM, CICS (preferred)
- Experience working in a financial services or banking environment is highly desirable
- Ability to understand and work with legacy systems
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field
- Knowledge of agile methodologies and mainframe modernization approaches
