Job Details
Summary
Under general direction, this position administers, implements, analyzes, maintains, and manages computer hardware, software, and database systems in an assigned department or program area. The role provides technical support to staff; manages and maintains the data network infrastructure, including associated hardware; performs system integration and complex analysis; serves as the web specialist; manages and coordinates information system projects; and performs other related duties as required.
Examples of Duties
- Provide application, website, hardware, and network system support in the area of assignment; respond to staff service requests and resolve operational issues.
- Maintain system program files, documentation, control logs, inventories, and departmental reports.
- Perform data restores and ensure compliance with the back-up retention policy.
- Assist in designing, deploying, and maintaining the Citywide telecommunications systems and related hardware/software.
- Confer with users to resolve operational problems and provide technical troubleshooting.
- Research, evaluate, and recommend alternative hardware and software solutions.
- Install, maintain, and troubleshoot enterprise-level software systems and network hardware (servers, routers, switches, peripherals).
- Provide training, technical support, and documentation to staff; assist in process analysis.
- Perform system administration, including backups, hardware troubleshooting, database capacity management, and security configurations.
- Program applications using scripting, report writers, query languages, and other tools.
- Recommend system enhancements and evaluate new software products.
- Review current procedures to identify automation opportunities.
Knowledge of
- Principles of computer systems operations and peripherals.
- Network administration, database management, and system integration.
- PC-based servers and operating systems (Windows, Linux).
- TCP/IP, DHCP, and data communication protocols.
- HTML, CSS, JavaScript, XML, PHP, MySQL, and SQL.
- Web standards, design principles, accessibility, and best practices.
- Project management and troubleshooting methodologies.
- Security systems, disaster recovery, and network performance tuning.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field.
- Two (2) years of progressively responsible IT experience comparable to an Information Technology Analyst I.
- Experience with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, XML, PHP, and SQL preferred.
Option 2:
- Associate's degree or completion of 60 semester/90 quarter units in Computer Science or related field.
- Five (5) years of experience in management information systems.
Option 3:
- Technology certificate from an accredited college or trade school (IT, Web Technologies, Database Design, Programming, Project Management, etc.).
- Five (5) years of IT experience, including systems analysis, development, integration, or project management.
Desired Qualifications
- Advanced Microsoft Certification, VMware Certified Professional (VCP), CCNP, and/or Linux Certifications are highly desirable.
