Job Description
CDM Smith is seeking a new Automation and Controls Engineer/Specialist to join a great team of engineers to help grow our services in California!
The successful candidate is passionate about SCADA programming, Process Control Systems, Networks, Instrumentation, and Control System Design with a desire to further enhance their skills and our Automation practice.
As a member of our team, the Automation and Controls Specialist/Engineer will contribute to CDM Smith's mission by:
Creating basic to moderately complex instrumentation, controls and related systems designs using 3D and 4D design practices.
Assisting with specification development.
Creating basic to moderately complex human-machine interface (HMI) graphics, programmable logic controller programming (PLC), report development, etc.
Assisting with the testing and startup of control systems including testing oversight.
Reviewing basic to highly complex component level shop drawings and contractor clarifications.
Leading and providing staff direction including mentoring for junior staff.
Reviewing the work of junior staff as necessary.
Under general supervision, participating and/or assisting in the preparation of proposal sections and presentations, and as directed.
Supporting marketing and new business activities as requested in support the Automation strategy.
Performs other duties as required.
This role can be based in one of the following locations: Irvine, CA, Carlsbad, CA or Los Angeles, CA

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree.
5 years of related experience.
Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
Domestic and/or international travel may be required. The frequency of travel is contingent on specific duties, responsibilities, and the essential functions of the position, which may vary depending on workload and project demands.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with Water/Wastewater highly preferred.
Experience within an Engineering and/or construction firm highly preferred.

Skills and Abilities
Strong knowledge of instrumentation, controls and related systems designs.
PLC and HMI experience required.
Excellent communication skills.
Strong knowledge of Microsoft office suite of programs.
Expert knowledge of 3D and 4D CAD design practices.
