Job Opportunity: Network Technician
Contract Duration: 12 Months (Possible Extension)

Work Schedule: Hybrid (3 Days Onsite, 2 Days Remote)
Work Location: South Carolina (SC)
Candidate Requirement: Must be a South Carolina resident or willing to relocate to SC prior to start (at own expense). Occasional travel to all client locations within SC.

Project Overview

The Network Technician Consultant will support the agency's network infrastructure, assist in maintaining accurate facility documentation, and contribute to the development of a centralized dashboard system for asset visibility. The position reports directly to the Senior Network Architect.

Key Responsibilities

Network Infrastructure Support

  • Install, configure, and implement LAN and wireless systems (switches, cabling, access points).
  • Troubleshoot and resolve network issues, identify root causes, and implement preventive solutions.
  • Monitor network performance and maintain detailed incident documentation.
  • Update and maintain standard operating procedures, diagrams, and network documentation.
  • Support hardware configuration, network design, and infrastructure upgrades.
  • Maintain accurate inventory and assist in lifecycle planning of network assets.
  • Research and recommend new networking technologies for integration.

Facilities & Dashboard Support

  • Collaborate with Facilities and Finance teams to maintain updated facility inventories (ownership, address, bandwidth, staffing data, etc.).
  • Update office floor plans, rack layouts, and equipment placements.
  • Develop and maintain a centralized dashboard integrating floorplans, personnel data, and system metrics.
  • Ensure accuracy and completeness of all facility and asset data.

Project-Based Initiatives

  • Conduct and document network closet audits, adhering to industry standards.
  • Maintain up-to-date "as-built" CAD/PDF diagrams for 68+ locations.
  • Perform on-site cellular signal assessments to support SD-WAN carrier selection.

Expected Deliverables

  • Detailed audit reports with before/after documentation.
  • Updated network floorplans for all offices.
  • Monthly status and progress reports.
  • Standard operating procedures for patching and closet organization.
  • Operational dashboard displaying complete facility and system data.

Required Skills

  • Strong understanding of data network services and communications.
  • Hands-on experience with network design, configuration, and implementation.
  • Knowledge of fiber optics, cabling systems, and computer networking hardware/software.
  • Experience with system analysis, testing, and maintenance.
  • Excellent documentation and communication skills.

Preferred Skills

  • Advanced knowledge of network protocols and configuration.
  • Proficiency in cable management, patch panels, and fiber optics.
  • Experience with wireless networks, SD-WAN, Azure, and VoIP.
  • Strong ability to document configurations and troubleshooting procedures.
  • Familiarity with government IT environments.

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field.
    (Equivalent experience may substitute year-for-year for degree.)

Certifications

  • None required.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., Network+, CCNA) are a plus.
