Are you an experienced mechanical engineer with deep expertise in Power Thermal Management Systems (PTMS), including the design, analysis, and development of air conditioning systems, heat exchangers, valves, and advanced thermal control solutions for high-performance applications? Our Power and Controls business in Windsor Locks, CT is looking for a Chief Mechanical Discipline Engineer to join us as a subject matter expert in PTMS. In this high-impact individual contributor role, you will apply your technical leadership and engineering insight to guide complex projects from concept through execution. You'll lead and support the design, analysis, and integration efforts that drive innovation and ensure the highest standards of quality and compliance within your discipline.

What You Will Do
  • Lead Mechanical Engineering Excellence and Quality Assurance across PTMS products, providing deep technical guidance and review of thermal management, fluid mechanics, and heat transfer design.
  • Mentor and develop a high-performing team of mechanical engineers, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, standard work methods, and technical growth.
  • Review and approve the technical direction and solutions for design, analysis, and development, across complex aerospace and power systems.
  • Oversee project lifecycles, ensuring alignment with customer, company, and regulatory requirements.
  • Drive innovation, incorporating emerging technologies and methodologies to enhance product performance, reliability, producibility, and cost.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with systems engineering, program management, manufacturing, and quality to deliver robust, integrated solutions.
  • Champion quality and compliance, upholding industry and company standards for mechanical design and thermal system performance.
  • Solve complex engineering challenges, acting as the escalation point for critical technical issues.

Qualifications You Must Have
  • Requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 12 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 10 years of experience

Qualifications We Prefer
  • Bachelor's or master's degree in mechanical or systems engineering or a related discipline.
  • 10+ years of engineering experience in mechanical systems, preferably in aerospace, nuclear or defense.
  • Deep expertise in thermal management systems, heat exchangers, fluid systems, and control valves.
  • Proven experience in design implementation of systems to hardware, hardware requirements definition, and structural analysis.
  • Strong leadership and mentoring experience within technical teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead innovation, resolve complex technical problems, and make data-driven decisions.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

The salary range for this role is 147,000 USD - 295,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
