Supervisory IT Specialist (Technical Architect)

Location: U.S. Department of Transportation - 1200 New Jersey Ave, SE Wash, DC 20590

 

Position Summary

This position is in the Office of Infrastructure and Operations integrates innovative IT services into comprehensive solutions to enable secure effective business operations for the DOT and provide direct services to DOT customers. The IT Technical Architect plays a crucial role in designing and implementing IT solutions by working across various DOT OCIO teams to understand their current technical environment and using their enterprise level networking expertise to define/document technology roadmaps, agency mission, goals, plans, programs, and business processes

Essential Functions

  • The Technical Architect will be a true hands-on Enterprise technology expert. Someone who has in-depth knowledge and experience with real enterprise level networking, servers/hosting, Cloud, datacenter, telephony, enterprise IT monitoring, with experience planning and road mapping technologies.
  • As a Principal Architect coordinates the efforts of other IT Specialists and contractors in solving complex and far-reaching technical architecture issues and problems for a wide range of systems, applications and customers.
  • Hands-on Engineering: System Design, Technology Selection, Requirements Analysis: Documentation (Technical Writing), and Integration Planning
  • Security Engineering: Risk Management, Quality Assurance
  • Technical Leadership: Guidance to development teams, Performance Optimization, Understanding and recommending Technology trends, Fostering Team Collaboration
  • Project Planning: Cost Estimation, Continuous Improvement, Governance, Project Cost Estimation/Guidance
  • The Senior Technical Architect will serve as a principal guide architect to both seasoned senior and junior federal technology architects, solution architects, specialists/professionals and is the federal lead for contract staff and specialists supporting I&O technical architecture.
  • This position is responsible for directing, leading, and prioritizing assignments to ensure technologies are selected and deployed within OCIO I&O, servicing approximately 14k users
  • Technologies include, but not limited to, CISCO, Palo Alto, MS Windows, Linux, SolarWinds, SCCM, ServiceNow, Apple, AT&T MTIPS, TIC 3.0, NetBond, AWS, Checkpoint, Cormant, Dell EMC, Oracle, Plixer, PolyComm, Quest, Ribbon, T-Metrics, Varonis, Entrust, Infoblox, Keysight, Micro Focus, NetApp, Netrounds, Verizon, M365, Kiteworks, and Whatsup Gold.
  • Responsible for developing short and long-term roadmaps for single technologies and entire technology stacks from end to end.
  • Plan for long-range staffing needs and establish the work schedules, deadlines, and standards for acceptable work.
  • Responsible for communicating complex and non-complex IT issues clearly and concisely to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Interviews candidates for positions and makes selection.
  • Advises the DOT leadership of issues/potential issues that could negatively impact the Department.

 

Preferred experience

  • Senior level experience in technical design and specification creation for a large-scale enterprise environment
  • Senior level experience in customer facing technical roles that assess customer requirements and define solutions based on those requirements
  • Senior level experience in managing technical delivery with demonstrated experience in cross team solution design and implementation
  • Proven, demonstratable hands-on experience designing and implementing scaled production software solutions
  • Strong technical leadership skills, critical thinking skills, problem-solving, creativity, and collaboration with an ability to build strong partnership with others
  • This position requires the incumbent to have demonstrated technical architecture abilities and oversight to
    Experience in supervising and guiding technical staff
