Job Description

At Stantec, we know the work we do matters. From decarbonizing mines to modernizing electric grids and building the infrastructure that fuels communities, we're powering the world. Our clients come to us with their biggest, most complex challenges because that's where we thrive. And we're looking for problem solvers, high achievers, and visionaries to help us.

Join us for a chance to grow professionally at one of the world's top design firms while building our clean energy future.

Your Opportunity

We are currently looking to add a full time intermediate-level Geological Engineer or Engineering Geologist to our hydropower and dams group within the energy business line in Southern California (Pasadena, Irvine, or San Diego offices). The successful candidate will build on their existing technical knowledge base to work on challenging and diverse tasks for dams and hydropower projects, conveyance tunnels, and water resource projects for a variety of domestic and international clients. The successful candidate will be working in conjunction with other engineers and geologists on multi-discipline teams to support project development including feasibility studies, detailed design, and construction support. The successful candidate should be able to work independently and with small and large teams to apply critical thinking skills to solve technical issues and develop project-specific solutions. The position will provide stimulating career growth opportunities including mentoring of less experienced staff.

The position has the option to work a hybrid schedule and may require travel to project sites.

  • Perform site characterizations and evaluate geological hazards.
  • Assess subsurface conditions, including soil and rock properties and geological conditions, including review and interpretation of field maps, field logs, test data, and other field documentation.
  • Evaluate field and laboratory test data and develop parameters for use in technical analyses.
  • Conduct numerical analysis using programs such as SEEP/W and SLOPE/W, DIPS, UNWEDGE, SWEDGE, Phase 2.
  • Develop familiarity with regulatory agency requirements, technical design standards, and industry standards and guidelines.
  • Prepare technical reports including geotechnical data reports, geotechnical baseline reports, field reports, technical memoranda, computation packages, feasibility reports, design and evaluation reports, construction drawings, and specifications.
  • Attend project coordination meetings with internal team members and/or external consultants.
  • Implement Stantec quality control and quality assurance processes for project deliverables.
  • Provide field oversight for projects during investigation or construction phases.
  • Provide leadership, coordination, and ownership of tasks from initiation to successful completion.
  • Provide mentoring, coaching, and training of less experienced professionals, as required.
  • Develop client management and business development skills, such as preparing proposals.
