About the Role:
We have a unique opportunity for a highly analytical Data Scientist with a specialized focus on Natural Language Processing (NLP) and artificial intelligence. In this role, you will lead initiatives that analyze complex unstructured medical records, design AI models to extract critical insights, and optimize those models using human-in-the-loop feedback systems. You’ll collaborate closely with engineers, clinicians, and data analysts to integrate intelligent solutions into scalable system architecture. The ideal candidate will also have expertise in Python frameworks and experience with healthcare data.
About Revature:
Revature is one of the largest and fastest-growing employers of technology talent across the U.S., partnering with Fortune 500 companies, the biggest System Integrators, and Government Contractors to identify experienced professionals who can be effective leaders.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain thorough documentation and provide thought leadership on NLP best practices for healthcare applications
- Develop and fine-tune NLP models for clinical tasks including Named Entity Recognition, text classification, and sentiment analysis
- Design and implement algorithms for processing and extracting insights from unstructured medical data (e.g., discharge summaries, physician notes)
- Integrate human-in-the-loop mechanisms to refine AI model accuracy through clinician feedback
- Create custom NLP tools and annotators to support healthcare analytics workflows
- Analyze model performance using evaluation metrics such as precision, recall, and F1-score, and optimize through training and hyperparameter tuning
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate business and clinical requirements into technical solutions
- Build data pipelines using SQL/NoSQL databases and deploy models using CI/CD practices and containerization tools
- Conduct research and experimentation to explore novel approaches in NLP and model generalization
- Apply Agile methodologies to prioritize tasks and manage development sprints
- Contribute to the development of scalable, production-ready AI systems hosted on cloud platforms like AWS or Azure
What We're Looking For:
- Master's degree and 10+ years of overall experience in data science OR PhD and 4+ years of overall experience
- At least 5 years of hands-on experience in NLP and AI using Python and frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, and Hugging Face
- Proficiency in tools like Transformers, SpaCy, NLTK, Gensim, Pandas, and NumPy
- Experience working with human-in-the-loop systems and healthcare professionals
- In-depth knowledge of unstructured clinical data formats and standards including HL7, FHIR, ICD, and SNOMED
- Expertise with SQL (PostgreSQL/MySQL) and NoSQL (MongoDB/Elasticsearch) databases
- Strong background in statistical modeling, performance analysis, and experimentation
- Experience with cloud services (AWS, Azure), Docker, and ML CI/CD pipelines
- Exceptional communication skills and ability to clearly present technical concepts to diverse audiences
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience working in clinical or healthcare environments using NLP models
- Exposure to clinical workflows, medical terminology, and informatics
- Understanding of transformer-based models, attention mechanisms, and deep learning for healthcare
- Demonstrated success integrating clinician feedback into iterative model refinement
- Fluency in scientific computing libraries such as SciPy and use of advanced statistical techniques
