Description

Johnson and Johnson MedTech is currently recruiting a Head of Hardware for the Ottava Surgical Robotic Platform. This position is based out of Santa Clara, CA.

The Head of Hardware Engineering leads a team of 100+ Electrical and Mechanical Engineers and is responsible for Hardware Engineering across all Ottava systems. This position is responsible for building technical capabilities and influencing the program's direction and financial results through a sharing of technical expertise. At this level, the position has a direct contribution to the development of business strategies and is responsible for leading and managing multiple teams of professionals. This position reports to Vice President of Ottava R&D.

Key responsibilities include:

Collaborate closely with Program Leadership, Software and Controls, Systems Engineering and Instruments & Accessories and other relevant functions to advance program development

Lead and develop teams of Electrical and Mechanical engineers totaling 100+ employees in matrixed organization to accomplish program goals

Drive strategic collaboration across teams for all facets of product development including design, development, implementation, verification, documentation, and release

Interface with Quality and Regulatory teams to support medical device documentation and submissions for approved clinical use

Work with Service and Manufacturing teams to develop solutions supporting the product lifecycle

Qualifications

A minimum of Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical or similar Engineering field

Advanced degree preferred

10+ years of Research & Development experience in design and development of complex, mission-critical electro-mechanical systems in a regulated environment

5+ years of experience leading large cross-functional teams

Familiarity with Medical Device product and process regulations and standards or their Industrial equivalents is required (e.g. IEC60601-1, IEC61010-1, 21CFR820, ISO13485, ISO9001)

Experience with Complex Medical Technology is preferred

Proven track record of successfully bringing complex capital products from concept through verification and validation on schedule and within budget is required.

Experience managing complex projects

Ability to coach and develop people and utilize customer-focused decision making is required

Experience working on robotic surgery and digital healthcare initiatives is preferred

Domestic and international travel is required up to 10% of the time.

The anticipated base pay for this role is $273,000 to $370,000.
