Title: Structured Cabling Network Technician
Location: Richmond, VA 23219
Duration: 8+ Months Contract (Possible Extension)

Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Structured Cabling Network Technician to join the Network Support Team. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience in telecommunications systems, cabling, and network infrastructure, including installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of copper and fiber optic systems.
This role involves fieldwork, design, and support of network infrastructure across multiple locations. Candidates must be self-motivated, detail-oriented, and capable of working independently or in teams to ensure network reliability and efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Design network architecture and telecommunications protocols.
- Install and oversee installation of data, voice, and fiber optic cables, equipment, and network devices.
- Troubleshoot and diagnose network issues, malfunctions, and equipment failures.
- Perform routine maintenance and inspections of systems and devices.
- Develop, update, and document technical policies, guidelines, and operational manuals.
- Manage vendor relationships, contracts, and telecommunications support agreements.
- Research and recommend new networking technologies for improved performance.
- Prepare weekly technical reports and documentation for internal use.
- Support project teams in new construction, renovation, and active office environments.
Required Qualifications
- Strong experience in data and telecommunications, including installation, testing, and inspection of deployed systems.
- In-depth knowledge of ISP/OSP copper and fiber connectivity.
- Hands-on experience with CAT3, CAT5e, CAT6a, and fiber optic installation and termination.
- Understanding of single-mode and multi-mode fiber and related technologies.
- Proficiency in network troubleshooting and telecommunications hardware repair.
- Familiarity with industry standards (BICSI) and safety protocols.
- Knowledge of OSI Model (Layers 1 4), TCP/IP, VoIP, MPLS, 5G, cellular technologies, subnetting, and routing.
- Working experience with Fluke Versiv, light meters, DYMO labelers, OTDR, and copper toner probe kits.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Teams, Outlook, Word, Excel, and Visio.
Preferred Qualifications
- 10+ years experience in data and telecommunications, including multi-site network support.
- 2+ years experience researching and documenting network technologies and trends.
- 2+ years experience using professional network diagnostic and testing tools.
