Mainframe Systems Manager
Location: New York, NY (Onsite)

Job Description:
A New York City-based organization is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Mainframe Systems Manager to oversee its enterprise mainframe environment within the Shared Systems Division. This leadership role involves managing day-to-day mainframe operations, staff supervision, system performance, and infrastructure planning. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical expertise in IBM z/OS (or equivalent AIX/Linux/Unix systems) and proven success leading large infrastructure teams in complex environments.
Responsibilities:
Provide leadership and direction to the Mainframe Systems team, ensuring system reliability and performance within SLA targets.
Oversee IBM mainframe operations, including subsystems, storage, and program products.
Lead z/OS administration, performance tuning, hardware configuration, and disaster recovery planning.
Analyze performance and capacity metrics; conduct regular performance and capacity planning.
Manage projects involving mainframe hardware and software upgrades, ensuring timely completion.
Track and manage mainframe software versions and maintenance updates.
Collaborate with vendors for capacity planning, support, and technology roadmaps.
Research, evaluate, and implement emerging technologies aligned with organizational needs.
Maintain and update all documentation, policies, and procedures related to mainframe systems.
Develop fiscal plans for hardware/software lifecycle management, capacity growth, and cost optimization.
Provide off-hours coverage for scheduled upgrades and assist in troubleshooting critical production issues as needed.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field and at least 4 years of experience in datacenter or infrastructure engineering/operations;
ORBachelor s degree in any discipline and 8 years of relevant full-time experience;
OREquivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Skills:
20+ years of experience managing large-scale IT infrastructure or datacenter environments.
Strong technical expertise with IBM mainframe systems (z/OS, subsystems, internals).
Alternatively, extensive experience with AIX/Linux/Unix infrastructure and enterprise storage systems.
Deep understanding of system architecture, control, performance management, and security.
Proven leadership in managing teams, coordinating projects, and driving infrastructure initiatives.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities; capable of diagnosing and resolving complex technical issues.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate across teams and vendors.
Self-motivated and capable of learning and applying new technologies quickly.
Strong interpersonal skills with a commitment to teamwork and reliability.
