Principal Engineer Server Side Technologies

Description: About the Role

We're seeking a Senior Backend Lead Engineer to join our agile development team. In this role, you'll take ownership of backend systems-designing, building, testing, and maintaining scalable services that power digital experiences. You'll work in a collaborative environment that values transparency, inclusion, and technical excellence.
Minimum Qualifications

• 8+ years of backend engineering experience, including 3+ years in architecture or senior technical leadership.
• Strong hands-on experience with Java and Spring Boot/Framework (6+ years).
• Proficiency in Python or Go.
• Deep understanding of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform) and cloud-native architecture.
• Experience integrating backend systems with enterprise platforms.
• Strong knowledge of databases (SQL, NoSQL, distributed storage) and real-time messaging systems (Kafka, RabbitMQ).
• Familiarity with DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Ansible).
• Experience designing for security, compliance, and data privacy.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
• Proficient with Git and npm in team-based environments.
• Solid understanding of:
  • Software design principles and patterns
  • CI/CD tools and workflows
  • Automated testing (unit, functional, contract, mocking)

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with JavaScript (ES2015+)
• Server-side development using Node.js or similar frameworks
• Familiarity with tools like Jest, Mocha, Yarn, Babel, Webdriver IO
• Experience with NGINX, Bash scripting, and Docker

Responsibilities

• Lead backend engineering efforts and promote best practices in server-side development.
• Implement scalable, maintainable code using modern design principles.
• Collaborate with product managers, designers, and engineers to iterate on features and architecture.
• Build and maintain APIs and backend services powering user and internal experiences.
• Debug, profile, and optimize backend systems.
• Design frameworks that enable full-stack developers to contribute to backend services.
• Define and monitor service performance indicators; proactively improve system reliability.
• Stay current with emerging technologies and bring innovative solutions to the team.
