Role Summary
We are seeking an experienced PostgreSQL Engineer / DBA to join our data and infrastructure team. You will be responsible for designing, maintaining, and optimizing PostgreSQL infrastructure, ensuring high availability, performance, backup/recovery, and working closely with development and operations (DevOps) teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, configure, and manage PostgreSQL database instances (onpremises and/or cloud)
- Monitor database health, performance tuning, query optimization, index management
- Design and implement backup, recovery, high availability (HA) and disaster recovery (DR) strategies
- Perform database upgrades, patching, and migrations
- Automate database operations (provisioning, maintenance, scaling) using tools like Terraform, Ansible, or CI/CD pipelines
- Collaborate with application developers to review schema designs, queries, and suggest optimizations
- Troubleshoot production issues, participate in on-call rotations
- Define and enforce database security, access control, encryption
- Documentation of database architecture, processes, runbooks
- Participate in capacity planning, storage management, and scaling (vertical/horizontal)
Required Qualifications / Skills
- Bachelor s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 5+ to 7+ years of professional experience with PostgreSQL in production environments
- Strong knowledge of SQL, query optimization, indexing, execution plans
- Experience with database backup/restore, replication (streaming, logical), and failover strategies
- Familiarity with automation / Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform, Ansible, etc.)
- Experience with shell scripting (Bash) or languages like Python for admin tasks
- Good understanding of cloud database services (e.g. AWS RDS, Azure Database for PostgreSQL, or Google Cloud Platform)
- Experience with monitoring/observability tools (e.g. Prometheus, Grafana, or similar)
- Solid troubleshooting, diagnostics and root cause analysis skills
- Excellent communication skills, able to work with cross-functional teams
