The COMET contract provides overall management and implementation of ground systems capabilities, flight hardware processing, and launch operations at NASA's Kennedy Space Center (KSC) in Florida. These tasks will support the International Space Station, Ground Systems Development and Operations, and the Space Launch System, Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle, and Launch Services programs.

Provides Quality Assurance support to ISS, GSDO, SLS, Orion and SLP program.

Responsibilities

Areas of responsibility include, but are not limited to:
  • MCOs provide Operations support for complex Command and Control systems. Non-trivial experience with advisory systems.
  • MCOs provide set systems administration and configuration control of released products from the design/development organization.
  • MCOs are Launch Control System interface with the Space Launch System Test Team during spacecraft processing and launch countdown.
  • MCOs provide Operations and Systems Administration of products in support of Engineers processing Ground and Flight equipment in support of the Space Launch System.
  • The core functions of this role include provisioning and preparing Launch Control System sets for test support.
  • The MCO maintains a Launch Support certification and is responsible for maintaining sets performing operational and hazardous operations.
  • Strong background in Linux is required.
  • Must be able follow complex procedures and pay attention to detail
  • This position requires shift and weekend work

Qualifications - External

Bachelor of Science (BS) in Engineering or technical equivalent from an accredited institution.

Essential Functions

Physical Requirements
  • Will be required to climb stairs to access equipment for troubleshooting.
  • Climbing ladders and platforms will be necessary.
  • Will be required to wear hearing protection, eye protection and other associated personal protective equipment.
  • Position may involve extended periods of sitting or standing.
  • Physical requirements are sitting, walking, standing, extensive use of stairs, and access to remote structures.
  • Must be able to work in tight confined space areas.

Work Environment
  • All work must be completed in a safe manner in accordance with NASA and Company safety standards.
  • Will be required to work inside and outside throughout the test complex.
  • Position requires daily individual to travel to different areas on site.
  • Walking on uneven terrain including paved areas, gravel/rocks, and dirt/sand is required to access various locations on the facility.

Equipment and Machines
  • Cranes and other heavy equipment such as crane carriers, Hi-Rangers, man lift platforms, hydraulic lifts, spider staging, converter dollies, cargo lift trailers, and tractor/trailers.
  • Operate computer terminals, personal computers, and related computer peripheral equipment to maintain/adjust database logs and records, print documents and record work performance.
  • Personal computer, scanner, copy machine, telephone, laser printer, fax machine, and other office equipment including desk supplies.

Attendance
  • Work assignments are normally 8 hours shifts, 5 consecutive days per week.
  • Must be dependable and punctual.
  • Occasional overtime, sometimes with short notice, is required to meet demanding schedule

Other Essential Functions
  • If offered a position, proof of U.S. Citizenship or Legal Permanent Resident/ of the United States is required.
  • Needs to have clear, concise, and accurate communication skills.
  • Must have ability to work well with office staff and customer representatives.
  • Government security clearance may be required in the future.
  • Must be able to travel to support position requirements. This may include travel to and from customer location, which may involve airline travel. In some cases, accommodations can be made for POV, if necessary.
  • Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.
  • Must maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that fosters good relations with customers, clients, co-workers, and management.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid CDL with endorsements Florida driver's license.
  • Must pass a federal background investigation.
  • Must comply with all "drug free workplace" requirements as mandated by directives issued by the appropriate federal contracting officer and the company, which requires drug testing for use of illegal drugs by employees in sensitive positions.
