Position Summary:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and knowledgeable Trade Compliance Specialist to join our team, with a primary focus on the classification of imported goods using the Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS). This role is critical in ensuring compliance with U.S. Customs regulations and global trade laws, minimizing risk, and supporting efficient supply chain operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Accurately classify imported products using the Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) and other relevant classification systems.
  • Review product specifications, technical documentation, and engineering drawings to determine appropriate tariff codes.
  • Maintain and update internal classification databases and documentation.
  • Collaborate with procurement, engineering, logistics, and legal teams to gather necessary product information.
  • Monitor and interpret changes in trade regulations, tariff schedules, and customs rulings.
  • Support internal audits and compliance reviews related to import classification.
  • Assist in responding to Customs inquiries, CF-28s, and CF-29s.
  • Provide guidance and training to internal stakeholders on HTS classification and import compliance best practices.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in International Business, Supply Chain, Logistics, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 3+ years of experience in trade compliance, with a strong emphasis on HTS classification.
  • In-depth knowledge of U.S. import regulations, including CBP requirements and the Harmonized Tariff Schedule.
  • Experience with classification tools, databases, and customs rulings (e.g., CROSS, ACE).
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Customs Broker License (preferred but not required).

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with global classification (e.g., Schedule B, ECCN, EU TARIC).
  • Familiarity with Free Trade Agreements (FTAs), country of origin rules, and valuation principles.
  • Proficiency in trade compliance software (e.g., SAP GTS, Integration Point, Descartes).

Direct responsibility for managing daily clearance of shipments by working with various business groups and providing compliance information and instruction to Apple's customs brokers.
Direct involvement in programs: verifying valuation, terms of sale, part numbers, P.O. number, other agency information, country of origin, AD/CVD, ISF reporting; define importer responsibility, facilitate daily broker management, etc.
Classify product and record classifications in Apple's global classification system. Work with the Global Trade Compliance team to confirm the correct HTS for the more difficult classifications, all in an effort to facilitate and ensure regulatory compliance.
Interact directly and maintain consistent communication with the suppliers, Apple businesses and Customs brokers to ensure full compliance with importing goods into the US; timely and efficiently resolve all customs entry discrepancies.
Assist with the on-going development, refinement and execution of AMR customs compliance processes, metrics and reporting design.
Assist with various departmental projects by providing technical expertise. Projects may include support for: FTZ, CTPAT, HTS classification
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $60.00 - $65.00/hr.
