The Application Architect leads Next Gen Architecture
modernization initiative, providing both strategic governance and hands-on technical leadership
to ensure architectural integrity, scalability and performance as the company decouples its
monolithic legacy systems. This role certifies architectural plans, validates work-in-progress
against standards, and collaborates with engineering teams and stakeholders to ensure
technology decisions align with business objectives and growth strategies. This individual also
identifies opportunities to leverage AI and modern practices to accelerate modernization efforts.
Key responsibilities include establishing architectural standards, evaluating technical feasibility
of new growth opportunities requiring technology expansion or external integration, and
providing regular progress updates and risk assessments to leadership. A successful
Application Architect combines deep technical expertise in enterprise modernization with strong
business acumen, leadership skills, and the ability to influence engineering teams through
complex transformational initiatives.
Responsibilities
Next Gen Architecture Modernization:
Lead and oversee architectural transformation from monolithic to decoupled
microservices architecture.
Certify architectural plans and designs, ensuring alignment with Next Gen Architecture
principles and standards.
Validate work-in-progress across engineering teams to ensure adherence to architectural
guidelines and identify deviations early.
Ensure architectural designs support platform scalability, elasticity, and performance
requirements to accommodate business growth.
Document and maintain architecture designs, technical specifications, and decision
records.
Identify and implement opportunities to leverage AI and automation to accelerate
modernization efforts.
Provide regular progress updates, risk assessments, and recommendations.
Build credibility and trust through hands-on participation in critical technical initiatives.
Architectural Governance & Standards:
Establish and enforce architectural standards, patterns, and best practices across the
organization.
Review and approve architectural decisions for new features, integrations, and technical
initiatives.
Conduct architecture reviews to ensure scalability, security, performance, and
maintainability.
Define and maintain architectural guardrails that enable team autonomy while ensuring
consistency.
Drive adoption of modern development practices, architectural patterns, and AI-assisted
development tools.
Mentor and guide engineering teams and team leads on architectural principles and best
practices.
Foster a culture of technical excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Cross-functional Collaboration & Business Alignment:
Partner with Product, Business stakeholders, and external partners to ensure technology
decisions support business objectives and growth strategies.
Evaluate technical feasibility of new business opportunities requiring technology
expansion or external integration.
Translate business requirements into architectural approaches and provide effort
estimates for strategic initiatives.
Communicate architectural vision, decisions, and trade-offs effectively to technical and
non-technical audiences.
Leverage AI capabilities to enhance architectural analysis, documentation, and
decision-making processes.
Champion adoption of AI tools and techniques to enhance team productivity and
architectural outcomes.
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
10+ years of experience in software development, with at least 5 years in enterprise
architecture roles.
Proven experience leading enterprise architecture modernization initiatives, including
monolith-to-microservices migrations and legacy system transformations.
Experience in architectural governance, establishing standards, and conducting
architecture reviews across multiple teams.
Track record of hands-on technical leadership in complex, multi-team environments.
Technical Skills:
Deep expertise in microservices architecture patterns, API design, and distributed
systems.
Experience designing scalable, elastic architectures that support high-volume
e-commerce operations.
Strong knowledge of Java, Spring Boot, and modern application frameworks.
Experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL) and data architecture principles.
Proficiency in cloud platforms (Azure, AWS) and containerization technologies.
Understanding of DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure-as-code.
Experience leveraging AI tools and technologies to enhance software development and
architectural practices.
Leadership and Soft Skills:
Strong business acumen with ability to understand business objectives and translate
them into technical solutions.
Excellent communication skills, capable of articulating complex technical concepts in
business language to diverse audiences.
Proven ability to influence and guide engineering teams without direct authority.
Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities with focus on balancing technical
excellence and business pragmatism.
Experience mentoring technical teams and developing architectural capabilities across
organizations.
Preferred Qualifications
Professional certifications such as TOGAF, AWS/Azure Solutions Architect, or similar
enterprise architecture credentials.
Experience in e-commerce or digital marketplace platforms.
Background in healthcare, dental, or regulated industries.
Familiarity with product information management (PIM) systems and vendor integration
platforms.
Experience working with external consulting partners on large-scale transformation
initiatives.
