As a Software Engineer in VMSS team, you will design and deliver scalable, resilient, and cloud-native infrastructure services that support millions of cores and serve Fortune 500 customers. This role offers the opportunity to work on high-impact, distributed systems challenges, contribute to new product initiatives from the ground up, and shape the future of Azure's compute platform. This opportunity will allow you to influence the direction of Azure's compute platform and solve complex engineering challenges at hyperscale - all while collaborating with some of the brightest minds in cloud infrastructure.

Responsibilities:

  • Works with appropriate stakeholders to determine user requirements for a feature.
  • Supports identification of dependencies, and the development of design documents for a product feature with oversight.
  • Creates and implements code for a product, service, or feature, reusing code as applicable. Writes and learns to create code that is extensible and maintainable.
  • Begins to leverage a variety of feedback channels to incorporate insights into future designs or solution fixes.
  • Assists and learns about breaking down work items into tasks and provides estimation.
  • Acts as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) in monitoring system/product feature/service for degradation, downtime, or interruptions for simple problems, and recommends actions to restore system/product/service by following the playbook.
  • Reviews current developments and proactively seeks new knowledge that will improve the availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance of products while also driving consistency in monitoring and operations at scale.

Qualifications:

Required/Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline with proven experience coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • Proven experience coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.
  • Experience with distributed systems and storage.
Other Requirements:
  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
    • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Additional or Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science
    • OR related technical field AND 1+ year(s) technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, OR Python
    • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field with proven experience coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 1+ years experience with distributed systems and storage.
Software Engineering IC2 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $84,200 - $165,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $109,000 - $180,400 per year.
