Job Opportunity:

Berxi has an exciting opportunity for a Senior DevOps Engineer to join its Platform Engineering team in Boston, MA, driving the design, automation, and scaling of our cloud-native platform infrastructure that powers our direct-to-consumer digital insurance products. As a hands-on technical leader, you will own and advance our platform capabilities, including CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure automation, observability, and testing frameworks. You will design and optimize automated delivery processes, enabling frequent, safe, and reliable deployments across all environments. Leveraging your deep expertise in AWS, container orchestration, and modern DevOps practices, you'll help deliver a secure, scalable, and highly available platform foundation. The ideal candidate will anticipate and eliminate delivery bottlenecks, implement performance-driven, security-focused solutions, integrate SRE and DevSecOps best practices, and mentor engineering teams to accelerate delivery and enhance platform reliability.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with engineering, QA, and platform teams to automate and improve cloud-native development workflows, enhance CI/CD pipelines, and increase release frequency to accelerate speed-to-market in an AWS environment.
  • Evaluate, select, deploy, and manage cloud-native CI/CD and DevOps tooling, ensuring scalability, resilience, and alignment with modern container orchestration (ECS/Kubernetes) practices.
  • Design and implement Infrastructure as Code (Terraform/CloudFormation) to provision and manage scalable, fault-tolerant AWS infrastructure, including networking, compute, and serverless components.
  • Enhance existing packaging, build, and deployment processes, introducing containerized workflows and automated environment provisioning to support engineering growth and platform scaling.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation for installation, upgrades, and operational procedures to ensure consistent deployments and effective knowledge sharing.
  • Maintain and optimize AWS-based infrastructure and cloud-native applications, assisting development teams with infrastructure-related debugging, performance tuning, and issue resolution.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to enforce DevOps, cloud architecture, and security best practices, ensuring system-wide reliability and observability.
  • Participate in architecture and design discussions, providing DevOps leadership and input to guide platform scalability and modernization.
  • Champion automation-first and DevSecOps practices, integrating security scanning, compliance checks, and automated remediation into CI/CD pipelines.
  • Drive Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) practices, defining and monitoring SLIs, SLOs, and error budgets, while improving automated incident response and system reliability.
  • Implement and manage cloud security and cybersecurity measures, including continuous vulnerability assessments, IAM governance, and proactive risk mitigation strategies.
  • Monitor and analyze service performance, inter-service communications, cloud infrastructure health, customer experience, and operational KPIs, ensuring optimal reliability and cost efficiency.
  • Provide regular status reporting and metrics to leadership and stakeholders for visibility into platform stability and delivery performance.
  • Mentor and guide junior engineers, fostering a cloud-native DevOps culture of automation, continuous learning, and operational excellence.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience
  • Proven experience working with Linux-based production infrastructure.
  • Expertise in designing, provisioning, and managing AWS cloud infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code (Terraform/CloudFormation).
  • Strong background in networking, security, and hands-on experience with server-based and serverless AWS services (CloudFront, S3, Lambda, DynamoDB, RDS, ECS, Fargate, SNS, SQS).
  • Proficiency with modern CI/CD pipeline tools (GitHub Actions, CircleCI, or similar) to enable automated, frequent, and reliable deployments.
  • Hands-on experience with cloud-native logging, monitoring, and observability tools (Datadog, Prometheus, ELK, or equivalent).
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with a collaborative mindset, adept at working with distributed engineering teams.
  • Strong problem-solving, troubleshooting, and documentation skills, with a proactive approach to preventing issues.
  • Deep understanding of high-availability architectures, fault tolerance, and modern IT operations for always-on services.
  • Solid knowledge of DevOps culture, Agile software delivery, and Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) principles.
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language (Go, Python, JavaScript, or Java) and familiarity with data serialization formats (JSON, YAML).
  • Experience configuring and managing SQL and NoSQL databases (PostgreSQL, MongoDB).
  • Working knowledge of various DevOps tools, open-source technologies, and exposure to multi-cloud environments.

BHSI Offers:
  • A competitive package and exciting growth opportunities for career-oriented teammates.
  • A dynamic, action oriented, and thoughtful environment centered on always doing the right thing for our customers, teammates, and our other stakeholders.
  • A purposely non-bureaucratic organization that embraces simplicity over complexity and emphasizes individual excellence in a team framework.
  • Benefits that support your life and well-being, which include:
  • Comprehensive Health, Dental and Vision benefits
  • Disability Insurance (both short-term and long-term)
  • Life Insurance (for you and your family)
  • Accidental Death & Dismemberment Insurance (for you and your family)
  • Flexible Spending Accounts
  • Health Reimbursement Account

  • Retirement Savings 401(k) Plan with Company Match
  • Generous holiday and Paid Time Off

  • Paid Parental Leave
