FUNCTION:
- Provide strategic input in the implementation and evolution of the Digital Data Records Retention program.
- Collaborate with business partners across M&T to identify & classify records, the applications they reside in and the appropriate retention and destruction approach.
- Apply critical thinking and creative problem solving in assisting application owners while designing retention and destruction procedures for the data and records under their management.
- Assist in enhancing the framework to apply retention policies to data
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to operationalize and refine the bank's digital data records retention strategy to align with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
- Assess and classify various data types, determining appropriate retention periods based on regulatory requirements, legal obligations and business needs.
- Maintain, implement & mature procedures and protocols for data retention, and disposal in alignment with the retention strategy.
- Serve as a subject matter expert, providing guidance and training to internal stakeholders on data retention best practices and compliance requirements.
- Assist in maintaining the official repository for all Records Retention Schedules and any supporting documentation.
- Provide consultation and education to Business units and Application owners in the development of their procedures required to comply with the M&T Retention Policy, Standards & Schedule.
- Develop training materials, documentation and visual cues and provide digital data record retention training and presentations to the cross departmental teams/ stakeholders.
- Stay abreast of evolving regulations and industry trends, updating the retention strategy accordingly to maintain compliance.
- Conduct regular testing and reviews to ensure adherence to the retention strategy, identify potential risks, and propose corrective actions.
- Understand and adhere to M&T's risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls in accordance with M&T's Risk Appetite.
- Design, implement, maintain and enhance internal controls to mitigate risk on an ongoing basis. Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.
- Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
- Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 7 years related experience, or in lieu of a degree, a combined minimum of 11 years higher education and/ or work experience, including a minimum of 7 years related experience
- Minimum of 2 years managerial, supervisory, and/or work leadership experience
- Extensive Records Management experience
- Experience in data analysis
- Experience with implementing and measuring Data Quality and Controls
IDEAL QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED:
- Background in Ops, Finance or Tech with Project Management/Business Analysis skills
- Expert knowledge of the data lifecycle and how it influences assigned work
- Experience in drafting business requirements and using those requirements to inform development of data management processes.
- Experience with change management concepts and strategies including communication culture change and performance measurement.
- Knowledge of data related regulatory requirements along with emerging trends and issues.
