Job Summary

Designs, develops, and maintains Oracle databases in development, testing, and production environments. Writes database code (stored procedures, scripts, triggers) for standalone use or for use by application programs. Oversees the stabilization and performance optimization of production databases. Functions as a Subject Matter Expert on database development.

Education & Experience

Required:

Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or related field with programming and database systems coursework or equivalent database administration experience
U.S. Citizenship
Must be able to receive a favorable Interim and adjudicated final Department of Defense background investigation
4+ years as an Oracle Database Administrator with progressively higher-level experience leading to a Senior Database Administrator role or equivalent
4+ years of experience supporting Oracle databases on a Linux operating environment
2+ years of experience with oracle 19c

Preferred:

Current certification in Oracle
Knowledge of Azure Cloud Environment
Working experience as SQLServer DBA

Key Responsibilities

Plans, designs, develops, and maintains Oracle databases in development, Quality Assurance, and production environments.
Reviews project requests and guides less experienced DBAs. Provides cost, design, and work estimates.
Designs, recommends, and promotes implementation of required database structures.
Develops and applies procedures relating to database and application security.
Monitors access time, performs validation checks and uses other methods to monitor and analyze database performance and ensures acceptable performance.
Develops and applies procedures for periodic database backup.
Performs security related functions including remediation of vulnerabilities.
Identifies and advocates beneficial change opportunities.
Acts as a technical resource for application and data users, data administrators, and others.
Serves as point of contact with technical peers for the resolution of infrastructure-related issues.
Performs analysis, feasibility studies and vendor comparisons leading to the acquisition of database related products.
Ensures compliance with TriWest HIPAA, privacy, and DIACAP policies.
Provides technical support and guidance for applications programming in support of all aspects of database systems.

Develops, monitors, and enforces flexible standards for all database platforms.
Creates databases, tablespaces, tables, indexes, triggers, procedures, and all other objects.
Defines the content and structure of the database (schema) and advises users on efficient techniques for extracting data.
Consults with development groups concerning the impact new applications will have on the database. Maintains accurate and up-to-date database system documentation.
Assures accurate preparation of database reorganization/restructuring schedules. Supports all phases of testing. Corrects errors and make necessary database modifications.
Evaluates and recommends purchases of new hardware and software to improve database design, analysis, performance and reliability.
Applies patches and application upgrades.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Regular and reliable attendance is required.

Technical Skills: Advanced Oracle database administration skills; working knowledge of Oracle database and server performance metrics; knowledge of database design, file access methods, data standards, data control, backup, and security; knowledge of systems programming methodologies for database design; ability to utilize database monitoring tools; knowledge of Microsoft Windows and UNIX operating system; ability to write UNIX shell scripts; mastery of SQL, PLSQL, and extensive experience writing and tuning of SQL queries; knowledge of government security requirements related to databases.

Working Conditions

Working Conditions:

Works non-standard hours as required
Works within a standard office environment, with limited travel
Requires occasional evening or weekend work to implement changes when users are not on the system
On-call rotation (7X24) to provide technical support to end users for urgent needs
Extensive computer work with prolonged periods of sitting

*Annual base salary for Colorado and Washington State residents: $109,000 - $122,000 depending on experience*
