Enterprise Data Platform Lead I Azure

Location: Willow Grove, PA (Hybrid: 4 days onsite)
Reports to: Director, Enterprise Data Platform

We are seeking an Enterprise Data Platform Lead to join our growing team and lead the design and implementation of a modern enterprise data warehouse (EDW) using Microsoft Azure technologies. This is a brand-new position within the organization, offering the unique opportunity to shape our data architecture from the ground up. This individual will serve as both a technical leader and a strategic contributor, partnering closely with senior leadership, particularly our Head of Data Strategy, to build a scalable, secure, and high-performing data platform aligned with business goals. Ideal candidates will bring prior experience from similarly sized organizations, preferably in the public sector.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead multiple enterprise data platform builds with a hands-on approach to architecture, modeling, and implementation.
• Assess the current state of the enterprise data warehouse and provide strategic guidance aligned with the organization s roadmap.
• Architect and design end-to-end data platform solutions using Azure, Synapse Analytics, and Power BI; familiarity with Microsoft Fabric is a plus.
• Apply data modeling expertise to design scalable schemas (star/snowflake) and manage complex data workflows.
• Implement data governance strategies, including data classification, lineage, and security best practices.
• Collaborate across business units to understand user needs and deliver accessible, business-friendly data products and dashboards.
• Promote standard frameworks and best practices for ingestion, modeling, warehousing, and visualization.
• Assist in disaster recovery planning and ensure data integrity and availability across platforms.
• Oversee a hybrid team of consultants and employees while mentoring junior developers and data engineers.

Required Qualifications

• 10+ years of total experience in IT, with at least 7 years in data warehousing.
• Demonstrated experience leading or co-leading enterprise data platform initiatives.
• Hands-on knowledge of Azure Data Services, including:
• Azure Data Lake
• Synapse Analytics
• Azure SQL DB
• Power BI
• Strong SQL skills and experience with ETL tools such as SSIS.
• Understanding of data modeling principles and tools (e.g., ERWin).
• Strong grasp of data governance, privacy, and security (e.g., GDPR, PII).
• Ability to communicate complex data concepts to both technical and business audiences.
• Experience redesigning and modernizing legacy data warehouse platforms.

Preferred Skills (Nice to Have)

• Experience with Microsoft Fabric.
• Industry experience in utilities or public sector environments.
• Familiarity with Azure Purview, OneLake, and Foundry.
• Exposure to AI/ML or data science workflows.
• Certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Data Analyst Associate.
