Position: Automation Engineer Windows & Implementation Support Location: Remote

Overview

We are seeking a senior-level Delivery & Automation Engineer to help automate manual configuration tasks currently performed by implementation and support staff on client-dedicated Windows servers. These tasks are currently executed through direct login to servers, but this method is no longer permitted due to security and operational policy changes. The new model requires secure, repeatable automation that minimizes manual access and risk.

This is a high-impact role with limited runway for discovery, requiring a proactive engineer who can work with SMEs to understand undocumented processes and build automations that scale. While Octopus Deploy is expected to be the primary automation tool, flexibility is required as the final tooling will depend on real-world constraints and collaboration with technical stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Partner with implementation and support teams to capture undocumented workflows and manual server tasks.
  • Translate these workflows into automated PowerShell scripts and define execution patterns to run them securely.
  • Use (or help evaluate) platforms such as Octopus Deploy to orchestrate the automation across ~150 Windows environments.
  • Create automation frameworks that support client-specific configuration, rollback plans, and auditability.
  • Ensure automation adheres to AWS and enterprise security policies, with strong credential and access management practices.
  • Collaborate with DevOps engineers, product teams, and technical leadership to meet aggressive delivery timelines.

Required Qualifications

  • 6+ years of experience in DevOps, delivery automation, or infrastructure engineering roles.
  • Deep expertise in PowerShell scripting and Windows administration.
  • Experience automating configurations across large-scale, client-dedicated Windows infrastructure.
  • Familiarity with Octopus Deploy, especially runbooks, variables, environments, and role targeting.
  • Strong grasp of secure scripting and deployment patterns, including identity management and audit readiness.
  • Ability to navigate ambiguity and operate independently when requirements are incomplete.

Nice to Have

  • Experience working with or supporting implementation/support teams (non-engineering users).
  • Familiarity with AWS, especially EC2 and Windows-based automation in cloud environments.
  • Exposure to other scripting or automation platforms (e.g., Jenkins, Rundeck, custom CLI tools).
  • Background in healthcare, compliance-sensitive, or highly regulated environments.
