This role combines data science expertise with hands-on software development and logistics analysis to optimize cargo movements and transportation planning for USTRANSCOM's global operations.

Job Summary:

As a Data Science & Logistics Optimization Engineer, you will be a key member of a team of technical and functional logistics experts, designing, developing, implementing, and maintaining IT solutions to support USTRANSCOM and the Department of Defense. You will leverage your software engineering skills, Agile experience, and data science knowledge to analyze complex logistics operations, develop data-driven solutions, and improve efficiency and effectiveness in cargo movements and transportation planning.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Analyze and optimize logistics operations, focusing on cargo movements and transportation planning, leveraging data analysis and machine learning techniques.
  • Design, develop, and maintain robust and scalable data processing and machine learning pipelines on AWS Databricks using Python and relevant AWS services.
  • Implement and champion industry best practices for coding standards, documentation, testing, and CI/CD within the Databricks ecosystem, leveraging experience with Git and other relevant tools.
  • Collaborate with data scientists to integrate data science models and algorithms into the Databricks environment, ensuring a smooth transition from development to production.
  • Design, develop, and maintain logistics-related reports and dashboards using tools such as Cognos, Qlik View, Power BI, or Tableau.
  • Support applying a systematic, engineering approach to the design, architecting, requirements elicitation, development, operation, and use of relational database designs (Teradata, Oracle, SQL Server, Databricks SQL, etc.).
  • Lead and participate in Agile Scrum ceremonies, managing backlogs and facilitating sprint planning and execution.
  • Contribute to process analysis and data analysis for cargo movements across the globe for USTRANSCOM.
  • Translate application and end-user system requirements into technical requirements.
  • Analyze and solve complex problems, making recommendations as needed, applying creative, in-depth technical and theoretical knowledge.

Qualifications

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Experience with software development in Python, Java, C#, or similar languages.
  • Knowledge of data science principles and techniques, including machine learning and data visualization.
  • Experience with Agile development methodologies and tools like Jira, Trello, and Azure DevOps.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Willingness and ability to obtain a security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with logistics or supply chain data and processes.
  • Familiarity with EDI data structures and standards.
  • Experience with data science platforms and tools, such as R or machine learning algorithms.
  • Experience with AWS Databricks, including cluster management, notebook development, and job scheduling.
  • Knowledge of BI and visualization applications such as IBM Cognos Analytics, Microsoft Power BI, or Tableau.
  • Experience with ETL and data virtualization.
  • Certifications in Agile methodologies (e.g., PSM I, PSPO I).

Target salary range: $80,001 - $120,000. The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
