Overview:

The State Judiciary (Administrative Office of the Courts) is hiring a Senior Red Hat Linux System Administrator Consultant to support and enhance its mission-critical IT infrastructure. This is a hybrid role based in Annapolis, Maryland, requiring 3 days onsite and 2 remote. This long-term consulting opportunity (5 years) is ideal for experienced Linux professionals skilled in enterprise systems administration, automation, and infrastructure support.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Administer and maintain Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) systems across development, testing, and production environments.

  • Perform Linux server installations, upgrades, patching, and cybersecurity hardening.

  • Use automation tools like Ansible, Bash, or Python to streamline administrative tasks.

  • Manage Red Hat Satellite, Red Hat Identity Management (IdM), and related ecosystem tools.

  • Monitor system performance, resolve system/application issues, and optimize for high availability, security, and reliability.

  • Support enterprise platforms including Oracle WebLogic, PeopleSoft, ElasticSearch, and others.

  • Oversee disaster recovery, backup/restore operations, and ensure data resilience.

  • Maintain technical documentation, configuration standards, and support procedures.

  • Work collaboratively with development, operations, and security teams.

  • Participate in on-call rotation and ensure 24-hour on-site response when needed.

  • Manage file shares (NFS), scheduled tasks (Cron jobs), and configuration tuning.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Advanced hands-on experience in Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) system administration.

  • Proven expertise in infrastructure automation using Ansible, Bash scripting, or Python programming.

  • Proficient in managing Red Hat Satellite, IdM, and enterprise Linux ecosystems.

  • Deep troubleshooting experience at OS, application, and database levels.

  • Familiarity with load balancing, system backups, and disaster recovery (DR) solutions.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • U.S. work authorization required (remote work must be from within the U.S.).

Preferred Qualifications (Highly Desirable):

  • 10+ years of experience administering Red Hat Linux systems.

  • Experience with IBM AIX / pSeries and legacy UNIX systems.

  • Familiarity with:

    • Oracle WebLogic

    • Oracle and Progress Databases

    • Apache Web Server

    • VMware vSphere for RHEL VMs

    • Rubrik Backup Solutions

    • PeopleSoft, ElasticSearch, Oracle OBI, Mobius

  • Experience with Linux performance tuning and enterprise monitoring tools.

  • Development background and familiarity with electronic document imaging systems.

Education & Certifications (Mandatory):

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related technical field.

  • Valid Red Hat Certification Either:

    • Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA) or

    • Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE)
      (Certification ID must be verifiable; current or expired certifications accepted)

Additional Information:

  • Interview Type: In-person, 1 hour at Annapolis, MD office (for shortlisted candidates only).

  • Onsite Requirement: Must be available to work onsite 3 days a week.

  • Remote Work: Permitted 2 days/week (U.S.-based only).

  • Response Time: Must be able to report onsite within 24 hours if required.

  • Compliance: Consultant must adhere to Judiciary health and safety protocols (e.g., vaccination, PPE, screening).
