**Candidates must possess a clean driving record (this will be verified) as their job involves field work within the state of VA, driving either a leased or a state vehicle
**Candidates must maintain insurance coverage during this engagement (this will be verified)
**Candidate must be able to pay for room/board while travelling to be reimbursed by VDOT. Gas card provided for gas only
**Travel may include some overnights, with notice
**ONSITE interviews strongly preferred
Skills:
Experience in data and telecommunications to include installing, testing and inspecting deployed communications systems. Highly desired 10 Years
Experience in Installation, maintain and support of critical, multi-site networks. Highly desired 10 Years
Knowledge of OSI model layers 1-4, fiber optics, MPLS, cellular technologies, VoIP, 5G, TCP/IP, UDP, ICMP, IP Network concepts,(subnetting/routing) Required 5 Years
Working knowledge of networking tools, such as Fluke Versiv with light meter, DYMO labeler, OTDR and copper toner probe kit. Highly desired 2 Years
Experience in researching and documenting communications technologies, topologies and trends. Highly desired 2 Years
Intermediate skills in using Microsoft Office products, Outlook, Word, Excel, Visio. Required 2 Years
Job Description:
The Structured Cabling Network Technician will work as part of the VDOT Network Support Team. In this role, you will be required to design telecommunication network architecture, monitor computer system interactions, troubleshoot and diagnose technical issues and oversee/install, maintain and repair of telecommunications systems. Must be self-motivated, detail oriented, professional and help create, develop and implement project process improvement(s).
General Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Designing network architecture and telecommunications protocols.
Install and oversee the installations of data, voice, fiber optic cables, equipment and network devices.
Troubleshooting and diagnosing network malfunctions, technical errors and faulty equipment.
Conducting routine maintenance of systems and devices as needed.
Review and update policies and guidelines
Manage vendor relationships, telecommunications support agreements and validate network billings.
Research technology trends for network support areas.
Assess and implement telecommunications technologies for applicability to VDOT.
Preparing technical documents, weekly reports and operational manuals.
Work with vendors to develop and implement solutions.
Telecommunications Specialist Requirements:
In-depth knowledge of ISP/OSP copper and fiber cable connectivity.
Experience installing, testing and inspecting deployed communications systems.
Strong understanding of industry regulations, BICSI standards and safety protocols.
Proficient in troubleshooting and repairing telecommunications hardware.
Hands-on experience with copper cat3, cat5e, cat6a, fiber optic installation and termination.
In-depth knowledge of single-mode and multi-mode fiber optic cable.
Experience working in new construction, renovations and occupied office environments.
Proficient with telecommunications testing equipment, including Fluke Versiv, 4 pair tester and toner.
Working knowledge of MS Teams, Outlook, Word and Excel.
Physical Requirements:
Travel within the state of Virginia with possible overnight stays.
Valid drivers license
Ability to carry and climb a ladder, 6ft, 8ft, 10ft etc.
Must be able to see and distinguish colors, read small print and hear and recognize audible signals.
