Job Details

One of our clients in the government domain is seeking a Web Content Accessibility Specialist who will be responsible for converting PDF and Word documents into accessible HTML within the state s web content management system. This role ensures all web content meets WCAG 2.1 Level AA standards by performing accessibility testing, including screen reader validation (e.g., JAWS). The specialist will review and remediate documents, provide recommendations for accessibility improvements, and train content managers on accessibility best practices and HTML conversion. Strong attention to detail, proficiency in HTML, and hands-on experience with digital accessibility tools and standards are essential.

Long Term Contract

Experience required: 3 years

Responsibilities:

  • Perform the PDF/Word to HTML conversions in the state s web content management tool. (20%)
  • Test the HTML content to ensure that everything was converted correctly and that it is in alignment with accessibility standards. This includes testing with screen reader tools (i.e., JAWS). (15%)
  • Conduct a detailed comparison of the source content and the new HTML content to ensure that all the information was accurately converted. (15%)
  • Assess DAS web content and provide recommendations to make the documents accessible and perform the necessary updates. Test to ensure that accessibility standards are met. (25%)
  • Share knowledge and train DAS OIT content managers on how to perform the HTML conversions and on WCAG 2.1 Level AA accessibility standards. Provide a job aid for future work. (15%)
  • Communicate progress updates to stakeholders and team members. This includes leading or participating in any necessary meetings with project stakeholders. (10%)

Required Skills:

  • Hands-on experience in web design, web development, and digital accessibility.
  • Experience with content management systems, experience with HCL DX preferred but not required.
  • Ability to provide examples of web design and development projects that demonstrate technical skills and accessibility understanding.
  • Proficiency in the HTML programming language.
  • Expertise in web accessibility standards and best practices, with specific experience in designing and implementing web content that is compliant with the accessibility standards established by the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA.
  • Experience working with Adobe Acrobat Pro/PDF documents, including creating accessible PDFs and document remediation.
  • Understanding of designing for an optimal user experience and strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to analyze and understand requirements
  • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills to develop effective solutions.
  • Effective communication skills to collaborate with client team members.
  • Time management and organizational skills to meet project deadlines
