Job Title: Data Center Technician
Location: Onsite Plano TX
Contract
Data Center Technician
Primarily responsible for physically installing, connecting, and testing servers, racks, cabling, and other core infrastructure components to ensure active data center operations.
Core Duties:
- Install and connect devices in server racks using copper, fiber, and power cables, following structured cabling best practices.
- Transport, unload, and position racks and heavy equipment within the data center as per layout requirements.
- Run patch cables, install network structured cabling, and test fiber/copper terminations.
- Perform "smart hands" activities including physical troubleshooting, swapping components, hardware diagnostics, and device upgrades.
- Respond to alert or abnormal conditions related to facilities systems, server, or network performance.
- Assist with the deinstallation and removal of obsolete or defective hardware.
- Maintain inventory of tools, equipment, and devices-ensuring all changes are documented accurately.
- Coordinate with additional technicians, vendors, and remote teams on installations, upgrades, and activations.
Required Skills:
- Hands-on ability to safely use ladders, power tools, and low voltage tech tools for installation tasks.
- Knowledge of cabling standards, physical layer best practices, and diagnostic testing for hardware.
- Attention to detail and organizational skills to maintain precise records and inventories.
- Physical stamina to lift and position heavy equipment over extended work shifts.
- Communication skills to collaborate on-site, report status, and address emergent issues
