The successful candidate is expected to report to the Warren Tech Center on a full-time basis. This role requires up to 30% domestic and international travel.

The Role:
As a Manufacturing Zone Engineer (Level 6), you will lead the development and implementation of manufacturing processes and tooling for new programs, model changes, and current production. You'll play a critical role in designing, integrating, and launching equipment into plant operations, driving each project from concept to steady-state production. This role requires effective use of personnel, materials, machinery, and facilities to ensure seamless execution. Work is performed in both centralized manufacturing engineering facilities and on-site at assembly plants, with a high degree of independent decision-making.

What You'll Do:
  • Lead execution for new programs, model changes, and current production within a defined area (e.g., trim, chassis, etc.).
  • Define manufacturing scope and requirements, including processes, tooling, materials, workstation layout, and facility setup.
  • Optimize and ensure efficient material flow for future-state operations.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to standardize tooling and processes across departments and programs.
  • Develop Statements of Requirements (SORs) for tooling and equipment.
  • Provide technical direction and oversight to vendors throughout design, build, and installation phases.
  • Manage tooling and equipment design/build, facility construction, integration, plant installation, and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Support build events and effectively address launch issues at the plant level.
  • Ensure all execution activities align with Global Manufacturing System (GMS) principles.

Additional Job Description

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial Engineering, or a related field - or equivalent relevant experience.
  • 1-3+ years of experience in manufacturing or process engineering, preferably within the automotive industry.
  • Strong technical foundation in manufacturing processes, equipment, and process engineering disciplines.
  • Working knowledge of the Global Launch Process (GLP) and Vehicle Development Process (VDP).
  • Proven analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills in fast-paced manufacturing settings.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across teams, influence stakeholders, and drive solutions.

What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
  • Experience supporting product launches or model changes in a production environment.
  • Strong understanding of material flow principles and lean manufacturing layouts
  • Exposure to troubleshooting launch issues and implementing corrective actions
  • Advanced knowledge of tooling fabrication and plant installation practices
  • Knowledge and ability to implement GMS principles
