Fuss & O'Neill is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join our growing MEP team. This is a great opportunity to work on a diverse range of projects, gain hands-on field experience, and develop technical expertise in building systems design.

The mechanical engineer will contribute to mechanical engineering projects across commercial, institutional, and industrial sectors, supporting HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection design. They will have the opportunity to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and participate in all phases of a project-from design to construction administration.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in Mechanical System Design: Support HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection system design; perform load calculations, equipment sizing, and duct/piping layouts under supervision.
  • Drafting and Modeling: Develop and update drawings using AutoCAD and Revit; maintain organized and accurate project documentation.
  • Code Compliance: Research and apply building codes and standards (IBC, IMC, ASHRAE, NFPA) and incorporate sustainability goals (LEED, IECC).
  • Site Investigations: Conduct field visits to assess conditions and gather data for system upgrades.
  • Collaboration: Work with electrical, structural, and architectural teams to deliver integrated design solutions.
  • Technical Documentation: Assist in preparing technical reports, specifications, and bid packages.
  • Project Support: Help senior engineers and project managers deliver projects on time and on budget.
  • Construction Administration: Review submittals, respond to RFIs, and participate in inspections.
  • Professional Development: Work toward EIT certification and pursue ongoing learning in sustainable and high-performance design.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related field
  • Basic understanding of mechanical engineering principles and thermodynamics
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • EIT certification or ability to obtain within 12 months
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD; familiarity with Revit or other BIM software
  • Exposure to building codes, ASHRAE, NFPA, IBC, IECC
  • Experience with load calculation software (e.g., Trane Trace)
