JOB SUMMARY
The Lead Cloud Architect will design and implement enterprise-level cloud solutions that align with UT Southwestern's strategic objectives, ensuring scalability, security, and cost efficiency. This role collaborates with cross-functional teams to integrate cloud technologies, provides technical leadership and mentorship, and drives innovation through multi-cloud and AI adoption. The position requires deep expertise in cloud platforms, infrastructure automation, and compliance standards, with a proven ability to optimize complex environments in an academic medical center setting. This position does not support reside in the Dallas/Ft. Worth Metroplex.

Required
- Education
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Technical, Education, Information Technology, Software Engineering, Business, Computer Engineering, Technology, Information Systems, or related field.
- Experience
10 years of experience in an enterprise support role and relevant experience designing or supporting resources and services in cloud-based architecture models, to include at least five years experience enabling production workloads in Microsoft, Amazon or Google cloud(s).
- Licenses and Certifications
Google Professional Cloud (GPC) architect or
Google Associate Cloud Engineer or
Microsoft Certified: Azure Fundamentals or
Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate or
Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert or
AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner or
AWS Certified Solutions Architect ? Professional or
AWS Certified Solutions Architect ? Associate
- Performs evaluations, recommendations and implementations from an on-premises and cloud network perspective in the context of a larger enterprise ecosystem. Contributes meaningfully to the overall IT portfolio strategy.
- Shares blueprints and translate cloud products, services, and capabilities, providing technical guidance, mentorship, and support to colleagues who represent a wide range of technical acumen.
- Continuously evaluates and optimizes cloud infrastructure for performance, scalability, and cost-efficiency.
- Works with stakeholders across the organization to evaluate cloud systems and identify appropriate solutions. Collaborates with executive leadership to demonstrate comprehensive planning details.
- Ensures back-end best practices such as backup, logging, monitoring, configuration, and redundancy are incorporated into standards.
- Stays current on Cloud-provider IAM (Identity and Management) concepts and workflows, authentication integrations, and platform administration.
- Provides specifications and detailed schematics for architecture including standards or reference architectures, in accordance with a vision developed from business requirements.
- May occasionally lead projects or project steps within a broader project or have accountability for ongoing activities or objectives and the work of small project teams.
- Provides specific, detailed information for hardware and software selection, implementation techniques, and tools for the most efficient solution to meet business needs, including present and future capacity planning.
- Fosters relationship with key or strategic external vendors, identifying scenarios for partnership.
- Ensures adherence to quality standards and provides technical guidance to team members and contractors.
- Understands and promotes Software Development Life Cycle principles and the underlying technologies that support it.
- Provides an expert level of functional knowledge to the project and team leadership in a specialized field such as business, engineering, IT Governance, and knowledge management. Applicable functional areas include systems engineering, business process, quality assurance, organizational planning, configuration and data information systems, major enterprise-wide technology deployments, or strategic enterprise infrastructure redesign.
- Mentors and supports the work activities of lower-level cloud architects or support staff. Conducts training or retraining in architecture concepts, analysis, design, and frameworks to small audiences.
- Remains knowledgeable of changes in technology, industry practices, and state and federal regulatory requirements by attendance at training seminars, trade shows and related venues.
- Solves complex problems and takes a new perspective on existing solutions.
- Incorporates security best practices to protect cloud network infrastructure from cyber threats and unauthorized access.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
